Five days before Christmas Eve
I changed my plans. I decided to drive to Nevada City, even though it was a long drive I thought it would give me enough time to think about everything.
"Anyone home?" I said as I walked through the doors and my mother greeted me as happily as she knew how good to see me after a long time. Anyways I hugged her back because I missed her too.
"Heyy mom, how have you been?" I asked her we walked up the stairs to my old room.
"Well darling I am trying, you know business at the bakery is supposed to be packed but this year many people are holding back on their money and the bank is threatening to foreclose on the shop because I missed a few payments."
"Aww mom why didn't you tell me I would have sent the money. Or better yet I would have gotten one of the businesses I assist to help you with funds and then you can fully take off the bakery without shareholders and all the other rudiments it comes with."
I told her as she looked at me in awe
"Come on mom don't look at me like that, I know what I'm doing just leave it up to me and I will fix the shop okay"
As we continued up stairs I passed by my old room and to me surprise it was all dusted and everything was spick and span only thing is that when I used to live in it everything was all about the place.
"Honey Jessie stopped by earlier and I told her you were coming home so she said she and Alex would stop by later to see you" she had that quirky smile on her face that told me something wasn't right anyways
"Whose Alex anyways?" I asked eager to know because I didn't know that she and Johnny broke up.
"Well she is getting married Christmas Day actually, so that's why she was so glad when she heard you would be coming home."
Since I left Nevada City I never made contact with any of my friends because I didn't want them to think I was boasting or anything so it was best if I didn't call or keep contact but now I'm back that will change because I don't like being with friends anymore with just a puppy named Fifi and a gold fish named plum.
My mom left the room as she said I could take a nap and maybe later we can go out to dinner or something.
Hmm I lay on my soft sheets just like I remembered. With only purple pillows since that was my favorite color. I couldn't sleep but just wonder what everyone was doing while I was away.
If Ash and heather were together still or if they finally got their dream jobs and moved away. I then heard a slight tap on my window when I looked outside it was Paul one of my friends from school throwing pebbled at my window.
"Heyy look at you old timer, never thought I would see you in these neck of the woods ever again... " he said sarcastically.
Paul was one of my bestfriends when I used to go to school besides heather and Jessie, we would talk and play cards secretly behind the big oak tree separating our houses from each other.
"Oh my God Paul it's so good to see you after so many years "I gloated cheekily as I left the Berbice window and ran downstairs to open the door.
"How did you know I was back?" I asked as we came closer to each other
"News spreads fast in Nevada city... have you already forgotten?" he said jokingly
"No how can I ever forget this place it's my home?" I spoke softly as we got close to each other and he opened those big wide arms for a soft hug.
"Come here you, I can see it in your eyes that things aren't going so well. What's the problem?" all these questions where easy to be asked but so hard to answer since I didn't know what to say.
I mean I have been home for only a few hours and there he his hitting the hammer on the right nail.
"Let's go inside and we can talk" I replied as we headed our way to the porch.
"How's life in the big city?" he asked with nothing but immense intensity in his eyes just waiting to hear what I was going to say.
"Life is good you know I mean I am preparing for a big promotion which I expect to receive anytime soon since I closed that mega deal with the Arch Foundation"
I soon saw my mom coming out of the car as she pulled in the drive way with a grocery bag down loaded. As she came closer to the house I went to help her but she shushed me away
"You go talk I will take the groceries inside and start dinner." She said gleefully as she continued her way to the house greeting Paul as she approached him.
"Good afternoon Paul, you keep her busy out here while I'm going to start dinner."
"Why yes madam I certainly will" Paul replied as he chuckled under his breath
"It would nice if you came over for dinner too because Jessie and Heather will be hear too. I guess it would a chance for you guys to catch up on old times"
Soon after we started talking about Jessie's wedding plans and how it was going.
Dinner went awesome everyone was there and we all had fun eating mac and cheese and talking about all the good times we had and what we doing at the present moment.
Heather was working at a General Store at the square and Jessie was into real estate so she had a great deal on the hall for the wedding.
One of her clients rented her a there hall for free and all she had to do is to pay for the buffet and she used her mom's wedding dress.
So as far as everything else was concerned Alex took care of it with whatever little help he got from his family. Even though they didn't appreciate that the wedding was Christmas Day they still helped out because he was there only son.
Later on that night I lay still on my bed thinking what I would were to the wedding since I didn't bring any dress to wear. The next thing I heard was my phone vibrating on the bedside counter.
I wondered who would be calling me that hour of the night.
"Goodnight Taylor, its Danielle, I called to give you a message directly from the investor himself"
"He said he would like to have a teleconference meeting with you tomorrow morning at 9 to make arrangements on the Christmas properties you have sent to them on the internet and if it's possible for you to come in for like a few minutes to sign a contract to give them Half ownership of the property until after the holidays" she continued
"Danielle that's great" I shrieked as my voiced interrupted the still of the night but I didn't mind because I was waiting for opportunities like this all my life and now if they are offered to me I will take it. At least my family will understand.
Because even though I'm far better off than I was before I still need to be better and maybe in next five years I can be prompted to CEO.
My wild imagination was interrupted by Danielle who shouted my name from the other side of the phone.
"Tay I know how bad you want this promotion that is why I called." She said in a hushed tone giggling.
