-Ten years later-

A police cruiser, with only one occupant in it, sat all by itself behind a large sign that depicted a forest with the words 'Green Hills' written on it. The occupant, who sat in the driver's seat, wore a sheriff's uniform, and was aiming a speed reading gun out the rolled down window towards a large stretch of empty road.

"Come on, one car?" the person muttered, their voice that of an adult male's.

He was completely unaware of the two pairs of eyes watching him from the large bushes of vegetation behind the car.

"Sonic, right here, right now, for the record, this is a terrible idea" Drift stated, her voice low and her eyes narrowing slightly as she looked from the parked police cruiser to the spiny blue hedgehog at her side.

"Oh come on Drift! Don't you want to see what our top speeds are?" he replied with a wide grin as he motioned a hand towards the police cruiser while setting the other against a small branch to push it down farther, giving the two creatures a better view of their target.

"Nah. I just don't want to hurt your feelings when it's recorded that I'm faster than you"

Sonic gave a fake offended gasp as he looked towards his sister.

"You? Faster than me? Oh please. I'm the fastest thing alive!" he cried.

Drift quickly slapped a hand over his mouth, being mindful of her claws as she looked towards the police cruiser, wincing slightly as the driver, who had been in a conversation with someone over some kind of hand held device, began looking around. He even stuck his head out of the car's open door to look back at the large bushes behind him. Sonic thankfully had the sense to stay quiet for once, and together, both creatures waited until the man pulled his head back into the car and continued watching the road.

Removing her hand from his mouth before he had the chance to lick it, something he has definitely done before, Drift gave the hedgehog a narrow eyed and slitted pupil glare.

"Keep your voice down, dang it! Don't want him to actually see us you idiot. Jeez" she hissed, looking between her brother and the car.

"Drift, come on. We're both way too fast for anyone to get a good look. Don't worry! Besides, if he sees us, we can just book it out of here!" Sonic stated, waving his hands around a bit.

Letting out a sigh that sounded more like a groan than anything, the dragon looked towards the police cruiser. To be fair, it had been a while since she really opened herself up. She usually had to keep her speed checked when in the forest in order to avoid accidentally running into any trees.

Again.

An incident that Sonic never let her forget. Right here, on an open road without any obstacles, well, who was she to give up the chance to burn off some pent up energy? Besides, maybe it would finally get her brother off of her back.

"Ugh, fine. This once" she muttered, holding up a single finger to emphasis her point while looking at her brother.

Wisely ignoring the smug grin that suddenly developed on the hedgehog's face, Drift slinked away from behind the bush and trotted off, keeping her body low to the ground to avoid detection. Sonic watched her look back at the police cruiser more than a few times before increasing her pace to a full on gallop, likely to get some ground so that she had the chance to really open things up. Inside the car, the sheriff, named Tom, disconnected from the call with his colleague, Wade, to aim his speed reader at something that was the road.

His heart sank in disappointment when he realized it was just a turtle, but having nothing else to do, he aimed the speed reader at the creature anyway. It was moving at a whopping zero point thirteenth of a mile.
