The Guardian of Life

Chapter One

The light of the moon shone brightly through the hole in the ceiling of North's workshop and Jack blinked. He and the other guardians having seen little to no action from Manny since defeating Pitch nearly four years ago. There was nothing to really do either, considering that Sandy filled children's dreams with the guardians. North called the other guardians and Jack watched as the crystal that projected new guardians rose from beneath the hardwood floor. When the other guardians arrived they fathered around the crystal," he's chose another guardian?" Tooth asked and Bunny was crossing his fingers begging for the groundhog to not be chosen.

Jack found it hilarious and reeled in confusion when he saw a male wearing kingly regalia and holding a sword in front of his body. The guardians shared looks of confusion," Phantom?" North said to himself and Bunny actually smiled. Jack sat on one of the yeti's workbenches," who's Phantom?" Jack asked and North rubbed his chin. 

"Not much is known about Phantom, all we know is he defends a town in Illinois," Bunny answered for North and Jack hummed. They all looked at the projected form of Phantom," one of us needs to go and tell him he's a guardian. No kidnapping him and tossing him through a magic portal," Jack said and Santa laughed heartily. Jack volunteered himself to go find Phantom and left through the open ceiling of the workshop.

Jack landed outside Amity Park, Illinois and tightened his grip on his staff as he lifted into the air and flew through the streets. He stopped when someone called out to him, Jack looked down and saw a black haired male with piercing blue eyes. Jack was going to be honest, he didn't expect people in this town to be able to see him. It still sometimes hurt when he wasn't able to be seen but he had the guardians and Jamie and his friends. The black haired male put his hands on his hips," get down here, you know the Fenton's are usually out this time of day," he snarked.

The guardian of fun landed in front of the black haired male and observed him," come with me," the black haired male said and Jack let himself be pulled along. Jack tripped a few times as they walked and froze when they stopped at an abandoned observatory. He was pulled inside and he sat on one of the old cushioned seats as the black haired male sat on the ground in front of him.

"You're new. I don't think I've ever seen you before," he said as he leaned closer, causing Jack to back away just a little. The black haired male noticed the staff in Jack's hand," may I?" he asked and Jack hesitantly handed the staff over. As soon as the black haired male grabbed it the staff reacted and started to cover the room in ice. Jack took the staff back," I have a question for you, do you know where to find Phantom?" he asked. The black haired male crossed his arms," who's asking?" he demanded and Jack actually felt nervous.

"Jack Frost. You were chosen by the Man in the Moon to be a guardian," Jack explained and the black haired male hummed. He introduced himself as Danny and asked what Jack meant by "the guardians". Jack described Sandy, North, Tooth, and Bunny; causing Danny to hold back laughter," dude, I haven't believed in any of those guys since I was six," he said. Jack frowned," please hear me out. Manny only chooses a guardian when people are in danger," he told Danny.

That seemed to get him," when did you want to meet Phantom?" Danny asked and Jack sighed in relief," as soon as possible. Most likely at the North Pole in North's workshop," he explained. The black haired male nodded," see you there. Now get back to the pole Jack," he said before fading from visibility.

Jack returned to the North Pole and was bombarded with questions about how well the meeting went. The guardian of fun backed away a little," he's coming here soon,  there was someone in the town who could see me even though he doesn't believe in the guardians," he explained. North hummed," very strange, regardless, we must be ready for our new guardian," he said with a wide grin before having his yeti's start getting everything ready. Tooth flitted around, sending her Baby Teeth out to collect teeth while she was occupied at the Pole.

Bunny was twirling one of his boomerangs in his hand, Jack sighed and floated in the air, reclined back with his arms behind his head. He didn't know hos long it would take for Phantom to get here, but her hoped that it was soon. Whatever threat was brewing now, they would most likely learn what was happening after Phantom arrived.

Hours passed and Jack jumped when the workshop was bathed in green light, all of them jumping into ready positions. When the light faded Phantom floated in front of them, his white flame like hair flickering and his large form swelling with power. North smiled and introduced himself, walking forward to try and give Phantom a hug. Phantom held up his hand," no hugs, I just want to know why you wanted to meet with me and why you have one of my own with you," he said seriously.

Bunny stepped forward," what do you mean by that?" he asked and Phantom looked to Jack who stiffened," Jack is a spirit. Meaning he died and came back due to certain circumstances," he said. North furrowed his brows," how do you know Jack?" he asked and Phantom sighed," I met him in Amity Park, I could feel him the minute he entered the town," he explained. Jack blinked, going to say something before being interrupted by North.

"Phantom, we need your help,"

Phantom put one leg over the other as he floated in the air," so the boogeyman is trying to, what, destroy kids hopes and dreams?" he asked with barely veiled anger. North wore a frown," more or less, he wants to gain power through the children's fear," he explained. Phantom held a hand to his chin, his core screaming at him to rip Pitch Black apart. The white haired male looked to Sandy and the guardian of dreams began to explain that Pitch had tried this before. He nodded along and looked to North," I'll help you. Only this once," Phantom said and the guardians, minus Jack, exclaimed.

"Phantom, I don't think you understand. Being a guardian isn't optional, once we are chosen we dedicate our lives to the protection of the children of the world," North explained. The white haired male furrowed his brows," that's what you don't get, I already defend people. I don't need some fancy name like "guardian" to do that," Phantom said with crossed arms. Jack flew forward," North, let me talk to him," the guardian of fun said and North nodded before walking away.

The other guardians left the room and Phantom sighed as Jack floated in the air beside him," I didn't want to be a guardian at first either," he said out of nowhere, Phantom hummed.

" I tried everything to make people see me but it never happened. One night North had me shoved in a sack and thrown through a magic portal. I denied being a guardian over and over, but having the ability to defend Jamie and the other kids of the world against Pitch is what convinced me," Jack explained. Phantom's form shifted and he leaned closer to Jack, causing the guardian of fun to flush a little.

Phantom sighed and the two of them went to where the other guardians were, telling them that he may consider being a guardian after stopping Pitch.
