So...

Are you ready? Buckle up and enjoy reading!

Jennie

"Falling in love is very real, but I used to shake my head when people talked about soul mates — poor deluded individuals grasping at some supernatural ideal not intended for mortals but sounded pretty in a poetry book. Then, we met, and everything changed, the cynic has become the converted; the sceptic, an ardent zealot."

"Soulmate, huh," I mutter and contemplate on the word.

E.A. Bucchianeri, the writer of Brushstrokes of a Gadfly, was right about it. It's such a sweet word that is too good to be true. I wonder if this is real.

Fixing my huge black eyeglasses, I check my friends beside me at the public library's table as they banter in a whisper manner. When I overhear their conversation, I can't help but facepalm.

"Green flag guys are immaculate! They're everything!" Irene, the eldest in my circle of friends, whispers aggressively at Joy, and Yeri. Rosie nods, agreeing with Irene's opinion.

But then Joy flips her hair as she raises a small red flag out of nowhere. "Yeah, not until you meet a red flag guy, Irene Baeby."

"Oh, please." Rosie snorts, clearly not agreeing with Joy. "They only give you stress and headaches. What's nice about that?"

"The magic. The thrill, girl. The mental stimulation." Joy retorts, emphasizing her words with her balled fists. They keep on debating about it, yet I don't even understand what they're talking about.

I only shake my head in disbelief as I continue reading when Irene grabs my wrist, catching my attention.

"Ha! Let's ask Jennie the genius to know who's best between the two." Irene brags as she scoots over, invading my personal space.

"So Jennie. What do you prefer? The green or red flag guys?" I can't help but sigh. They always involve me in that kind of trivia I'm not even interested in.

I examine them lazily as they wait for my answer. I sigh in defeat, chuckling. They're dying to know about my opinion about it.

"Black. I love black." I answer hastily as I continue reading. Flipping some pages, I hear them gasp in unison which stops me from reading.

I look at them with my knitted eyebrows. "What?"

"Jennie, did you just say... black?" Yeri confirms, and I nod nonchalantly.

"Yeah. And it's my favorite color. So I go everything with black." I reply, glancing at their jaw-dropped reactions.

They already know about my favorite color ever since we were in first-year college and should still know about it now that we're graduating biology students. So what's the fuss?
