Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase were in the Cabin 3 at Camp Half Blood.
"Ok, Wise Girl, how d-Leo?"
Percy's eyebrows furrowed upon seeing Leo's pale, tear streaked face."What's wrong?!" Percy stood, moving quickly to aid the other boy, who stood still for a moment before jumping back to himself,
"It's Chiron," The grief that had previously shone through to his face was now buried under a cold gaze.Percy swallowed, grabbing Annabeth's hand, and they ran to the big house. The girl's head was empty except for a painful chorus of, Chiron, Chiron, Chiron. She didn't register the boy next to her until she heard a quiet voice.
"No," The word was punched out of Percy, quickly accompanied by a choked sob. Sitting in front of them, was their beloved mentor, a dagger through the back.
"No." Another, stronger, voiced echoed his, Percy looked up at Annabeth, unable to stomach the sight of the dead centaur. "No, no, no," Annabeth's head was shaking violently, her voice wavering through the repeated denials. Percy wrapped an arm around her shoulder in an attempt to ground her.
He let out a shaky breath. She shook his arm off. "No. You're lying. You're all lying!"
"Annabeth,"
"He didn't fucking die! Chiron doesn't die. Chiron can't die."
Before Percy could try to console her, she sprinted in the opposite direction.
Holy shit.——————
The last few months of the summer, Annabeth was locked up in Artemis' cabin. You could often find Percy outside Cabin 8, sitting, waiting for a girl no one else thought would come.
They were pitied. In early September, Annabeth came out. Percy was no longer there, she assumed he had gone home. The girl was dirty and skinnier than healthy. Her dark circles rose around her sunken eyes. The grey that had once looked calculating, stubborn, now looked only tired and well grieved.
Annabeth felt eyes on her as she walked up to the woods, needing to be alone. The loud murmurs of the campers around her told her she wouldn't be, hating herself for the actions she would soon take, she found Percy. He was staring off into the disance, looking no longer attached to reality, she silently sat next to him.
"Hey, Seaweed Brain," she said quietly. His eyes widened, as he let out a relived exhale and turned toward her. "Wise Girl." Percy smiled softly, "You had me worried." A single tear rolled down Annabeth's cheek, but she wiped it away before he could. "There's actually something I need to tell you.
——————
Percy was devastated. She left. She had good intentions, he reminded himself, goodintentionsgoodintentionsgoodintentions.
Looking back, however, even the best intentions can be used to open the worst wounds.
Over the next few weeks, Percy began to notice a pattern. Annabeth would be with someone for a few days then drop them and find somebody else, leaving a trail of confused people in her path. What Percy obsessed over, however, was that they were all children of some water-related god, with the occasional naiad.
Most had dark hair or light eyes.Annabeth eventually found someone named Charla Johnson, Daughter of Amphitrite. She was awful.
——————
The first day that they started officially dating, Charla waltzed onto the training grounds while Percy was grabbing water, she took and uncapped Riptide, then slashed her arm.
She then ran back to the pavilion, crying that Percy had attacked her.The second day, she threw all the medical supplies in the lake and wrote a note signed 'Kelp Head'. The Apollo kids were furious. Many campers were lost because of that.
The third day, she graffitied Chiron's grave, once again blaming Percy.
These "jokes" continued to get worse and worse. By the fifth day, Percy was being physically abused.
Annabeth started to partake in more of the mental games. Percy knew that she didn't believe he was behind everything, anything, really. She was a wise girl.——————
After weeks of this, everyone hating him,
bring shunned for actions that clearly weren't his, Percy ran to the woods, he didn't bother going too deep.
Everyone had already seen him cry, but Percy could never get a moment of peace, could he? Funny how far everyone's "loyalty" lasted.
Annabeth crept up on him, wanting to spook him. "Oh, come on!" Percy flinched, not because he wasn't aware she was there, he always was, but because of the bite in her words. They were harsh, a tone that she had never used around him."Why do you always do this?" Annabeth continued, smirking. "I mean it's your fault really.. Why do you always cry?"
