Chapter 01

Fight for the Exit!!!!

Kamui continued down the crooked and twisting path. Not far behind him was Tarano Thriesval, who was suppose to accompany him for the test to enrol in Magicus Academy, the prestigious academy of elite magic learning. The trees surrounding them were bare, showing only leafless branches which seemed to be reaching out to the two with the intention to pull them into the abyss beyond the first row of dead nature.

Tarano jumped as a sound of cracking reached his ears from the left. Trembling as he stared at the direction of the sound, the terrified man asked the first question that popped into his mind. “W-W-What's that?”

“A branch.” Kamui replied without batting an eye, continuing his walk down the path.

Another cracking sound came from the right moments, earning the exact same previous reaction from Tarano. Before he could open his mouth to ask the same question, Kamui had already replied with the same answer. “Another branch.”

The third time came a loud wailing screech from behind, prompting Tarano to scream and leaped onto Kamui's back, much to the latter's chagrin. “W-W-W-What is it this time?!” Tarano stammered out the question as the wail continued for a period of time before fading out into the air.

“A banshee this time, I think.”

“Y-You are not scared?” Tarano quivered.

“I had seen and heard worse.” Kamui successfully pried Tarano off his back. “And having them in your dream is worse when you can't even run from it.”

“I-I see...” Tarano dusted himself frantically. “Is that why you lack emotions?”

“For someone who's afraid of even a single wail, you sure have a lot of questions.” Kamui quirked an eyebrow. “Are you really that curious about me?”

“W-Well...” Tarano began poking his index fingers together. “I'm pretty sure any normal and sane person would find this place eerie.”

“Guess I'm not normal or sane enough to you.” Kamui shook his head to himself and continued his way. “Let's go. You're my partner in this test and I can't afford to leave you behind.”

“W-Wait up!” Tarano quickly ran and caught up with Kamui. “S-So, do you have any plans to get out of here?”

“They gave us a path, might as well take it.” Kamui fought the urge to shut the younger man up.

“H-How long do you think it would take?” Tarano pressed on.

Deciding that enough was enough, Kamui turned and face Tarano with a steely glare. “If you were my brother, I would have kick you at the head to shut you up.” He took in a deep breath to calm himself. “Now kindly keep your comments to yourself and let me lead.”

“Oh, yeah.” Kamui's words seemed to fly by Tarano's head with no effect of making him listen. “You have a younger brother? Is he at home right now? Will he be coming to the Academy in the future?” The previously frightened man fired off questions endlessly .

Kamui almost slapped his palm onto his face. “Yes I have a younger brother. No he's on his way to the academy as well, right now.”

“Oh...” Tarano said, almost as if he realised something. “So both of you are twins?”
