Running through the small streets she could hear them coming closer. Her plan to leave quietly had failed miserably. She tried to find her way to the harbor as she held her daughter close. It was already night and the only light she had was that from the moon and the stars. The cold evening air cut through her skin and she could barely feel her hands. The grip over her daughters hand became tighter as they ran faster and faster. They got closer to the sound of waves crashing into a pier. When mother and daughter reached the shore she immediately jumped on one of the little boats and put the little girl beside her, she signed for her to be quiet. The woman and her daughter were long gone when the guards finally got to the shore. Only a dot on the horizon
Finally, she could take a deep breath. While looking back she saw their lanterns. Tears filled her eyes. Regret was written all over her face. She didnt want to leave them but she had no choice. "I promise we will reunite again someday."
A promise that still hasn't been fulfilled years later.
