The show was never ending. Song after song coursed through my veins as sweat poured from his temple. We were caught in some fog induced trance, as our eyes danced with one another's. He took a kick step back and nudged the guitar player and sent a nod my way. Seconds later a guitar pick landed in my outstretched fingers. My head was spinning, either from the glow in his eyes or the liquor in my blood. His eyes met mine one final time on their second encore, and motioned towards stage left. I instantly understood his message and grinned devilishly. He took a long drink of Jack from the side of the stage and his gorgeous lips shouted out "Thanks for coming out, everybody! We love you tonight and always! We're Any Open Door!" With that the boys ran off the stage, dripping in sweat and adrenaline. Slowly, the crowd pulsed towards the exit. I stood around nervously until I saw Dustin and a security guard's head peek from the side curtain and point in my direction. The guard nodded silently and motioned for me to mount the staircase. Another guard unlatched the gate and I hurriedly climbed each stair as my heart pounded in my chest. I slipped through the velvety curtains and saw the small crowd backstage. Other band members, their girls and groupies, roadies, guitar techs, everyone but Dustin. My eyes searched the room, fearful that he'd seen a more beautiful girl and forgotten about me entirely. Another guard started my way and my heart sank. Here came the news.
"He's waiting for you, in his room down the hall," he said matter of factly. I walked shyly down the long hallway reading the names on doors. I stopped suddenly when I caught a glimpse of his door plaque. "Renfro," It read. "Do I knock?" I wondered. Of course I do. I wouldn't just barge in. My palms were already sweaty and my mind was spinning. Somehow though, my hand knew exactly what was expected of it. I rapped my fist on the door gently a few times before a seductive, raspy voice called out "come in, love."
