CHAPTER TEN: An Odd Girl

"Yes, I understand," Althea replied after listening to her mother's scolding through the phone. "I know. I won't do it again."

Althea rested her head on the soft pillow then she couldn't help but sigh helplessly. On the other side of the line, her mother was still ranting. Althea was tired of listening to the point that the words entered and exited her ears without delay.

Again, she sighed and looked up at the white ceiling, still holding the phone next to her ear.

Currently, she's inside the school's infirmary. According to the school nurse, she fainted in the hallway. The nurse even gave her an earful, saying that if she felt unwell, she should have stayed at home. She was lucky that there was someone who saw her fainted and called for help to carry her or else she'll be there until the bell rang for a break.

After that, her parents called her. Apparently, the nurse contacted them. The moment she answered the phone, her mother started cursing her endlessly. Just thinking about it makes her head hurt.

The call only ended after millions of consolation and lies from Althea. But, of course, her mother is not easy to deceive, but her father is another story. It was a good thing that he was there.

Silence enveloped the infirmary room after she hung up. She looked around at the spacious room. There are many beds inside and all are kept clean. She was the only one there at the moment, the school nurse ran off towards who knows where.

Althea didn't expect that she'll faint in school. Truth to be told, her body is already heavy the moment she wakes up and her head is throbbing painfully. She decided to ignore it and went to school, believing that it would go down after a while, but it didn't, which led her into an embarrassing situation; fainting in the school's hallway.

She was very thankful that classes were ongoing at that time, meaning; only a few students saw that incident. The hallway was empty as far as she can remember and the infirmary is not far from the place either, so the number of audiences is, probably, reduced.

'No,' she said in her mind. 'It is greatly reduced, not probably.'

Althea strongly rejected the idea of being seen by many eyes during her embarrassing moments. As her mind is drowned in her own world, her phone rang for notification. She glanced at the phone on top of the bedside table before reaching it.

It was a message from Tyler.

***

Tyler: I heard you fainted,

Tyler: You miss me that much?

***

Althea stared at his messages for a good while, debating whether to respond or not. Amid her dilemma, the shameless man sent another message.

***

Tyler: Okay, just kidding.

Tyler: You should have taken good care of yourself more; you know I am not there to take care of you.

***

She stared at the text messages for a good whole minute before producing a small chuckle. Even being separated for a good hundred of miles, his shamelessness didn't even lessen. He even got more shameless in these past months. Althea adjusted her sitting position before typing a reply.

***

: Even if you're here, I don't need your care.

: How did you even know, btw?
