Some empires fall because different Familias want different things. However, in this instance, this once great empire fell because of two Fratres who wanted the same thing. The Hyperion Throne. This decades-long age of darkness, famine, and betrayal became known in the Hyperion Empire...as the "Decades of Darkness."
In the last tale I made mention of a time before from Chenghiz became Imperator, a time known as the "Age of Fairytales." It began atop Mount Olympos. Titanfather Meus had completed his work on creating creatures bearing his image called witches to care for the world he created, and the other creatures that inhabited it.
Unfortunately, however, after a few centuries, darkness enveloped the hearts of his perfect creation, and they began treating each other as enemies for things that're out of their control. In an attempt to save them, he created five creatures called therians, as well as two more witches, and granted them the ability to change their forms which would help them bring justice unto those who disobeyed him.
"That leaves you two as heads of state," Avunculus Hyperion instructed "Excuse me," Imperator Lancea questioned. "Do you wish for me to repeat myself?" Titanfather Meus asked, and the first Imperator nodded. "Under the supervision of Dominus Dylanus, you, and Paramveer shall rule this land together. Unless you would rather switch roles with him?"
"N – No," Imperator Lancea answered. Turning to face his other guest, Avunculus Hyperion conjured up a black box with five padlocks. "Here," the almighty titan said, handing the box to his confused creation. In his usual cryptic and mysterious way, Titanfather Meus explained to his creations their roles. What seemed like a simple task was the thing that'd connect all of the events to come.
"Pandora's box?" Dominus Paramveer asked. "Yes, the same one Nepos Meus, Zeus gave Pandora several years ago." "How did it end up here?" Imperator Lancea questioned. "After she disobeyed him, and released darkness upon the Kronian Empire, he gifted it to me, so I may use it to conceal the darkness's of the Hyperion Empire "WHAT!" the two witches exclaimed in unison.
"Yes," Avunculus Hyperion answered. "That box you hold contains the five deadliest vices known to witchkind and it can only be opened." He paused and drew a spell circle. "With these five keys," he said as a rainbow keychain appeared in his hand.
Handing the keychain to Imperator Lancea he then gave them the most important instruction. "Regardless of the temptation, you must ensure it remains sealed." "We understand Dominus Meus," Dominues Paramveer said. "Now about your roles," Titanfather Meus continued.
"The two of you shall act as figureheads, performing the ceremonial aspects of ruling while Dominus Dylanus defends it from darkness. Once your bodies become too exhausted to continue, you shall each pass on your roles to your firstborns, and then them to theirs so the land remains united." "Etiam Domine!" they exclaimed. "Very good," Avunculus Hyperion said.
This was how the imperial family, as well as the aether pack, began. Upon the completion of the then realm with no name, Titanfather Meus realized that he and his family were needed on Olympos, so he created three beings to watch over the land in his stead.
To the first two, he bestowed the mythical Pandora's box, as well as the keys required to unseal it. The third one meanwhile, who's known to be the first aether, was granted the same ability his future brethren would be bestowed with and instructed to use them for similar purposes.
"Dominus Meus!" Dominus Solar exclaimed. "I've retrieved Dominus Dylanus!" "Gratias Tibi!" Titanfather Meus said, before returning his gaze towards his other creations. "That's all I have to say two, you may go now."
"Allow them entry," Avunculus Hyperion commanded. "Etiam Domine!" Dominus Solar replied, before doing as he was told. As previously stated, Dominus Dylanus Orca is known as the first aether in the Hyperion Empire's history, who's said to posses the abilities of all his therian brethren, and thus could control all four elements, as well as turn off his powers entirely to pose as a witch.
Imperator Lancea, and Dominus Paramveer bowed in respect, before exiting Titanfather Meus throne room. And yes, Orca was the actual original nomen of all the five therian packs, at least before they began branch out. Amusingly enough, I recently discovered that Fratres Meus Et I are actually Posteri of Dominus Dylanus.
"You wished to see me Dominus Meus?" Dominus Dylanus questioned. "Yes," Avunculus Hyperion responded. "I wish to discuss your role." "My role?" the first aether questioned. "Yes, your role will be to observe the witches of the realm, which includes Lancea and Pramveer since, as you likely overheard, those two shall be ruling them."
"However, don't be afraid to voice your concerns. Though your role is to observe, you'll also have to act as a mediator and maintain peace in the realm." "Etiam, Dominus Meus," Dominus Dylanus answered. "However, I have a question."
"Which is?" Titanfather Meus asked, curious. "Whilst Dominus Solar was escorting me here, he informed me that while Lancea and Paramveer will be responsible for punishing all other crimes, it will be my duty to punish a specific type of crime." "Ahh yes thank you for reminding me," Avunculus Hyperion responded.
"As you know, darkness is a powerful and dangerous foe. One that infiltrates a creature's heart undetected, and is drawn to negative emotions such as hate, and rage. A major cause for both of these feelings are a set of deadly thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors known as discrimination."
"I understand," Dominus Dylanus interrupted. "That's why you created me so I may rid the land of discrimination." "Yes, however thankfully there's only one form of discrimination," "Which is?" the first aether questioned. "Queerophobia. And cishetophobia but queerophobia is more common," Titanfather Meus answered.
Yeah, Soror Mea Et Domina Gloria neglected to explain this in the previous tale but the aether pack was also responsible for punishing cishetophobic crimes however as also mentioned in that tale those cases were fewer and far between, so it's an easy mistake to make.
"I understand you may be disappointed with your role however, as a creature who's, in a way, both homosexual and heterosexual, you are the only wolf I can trust for this task." "Ego Intellego, Dominum," the first aether responded. This was how the aethers received their roles. Though it sounded simple on paper, it was nowhere near easy. Due to queer rights having been suppressed up to that point, Dominus Dylanus had a difficult road ahead of him.
While he was able to relay Titanfather Meus message to the realm's witches, there were still many that couldn't be dissuaded prejudice and had to be punished. Over a thousand years later, Bis Nepotem Meus, Imperator Azur II assigned this same role to his five sons and sent them to each of them to the four Regnums to deliver the titan's message.
The second of those five, grew to be one of the most famous and beloved yet feared Imperator in the empire's history. A wolf whose name would be intertwined with rights and equality, who revived a thousand-year-old tradition returning some of the empire's lost stability. His name was Rufus I, Manticorus.
