Tylla's Story

She grew up in grace, beauty, and compassion. Though she did not see the extent of her beauty. She was loved by all. Except me. I loathed her. I suppose I was jealous of her beauty. I wasn't satisfied with what I had.

Her 16th birthday was coming up and she was terribly excited. I was the queen. I was entitled to give all of the forest people something for their 16th birthday. Now with all of my relatives I had a rule. They could ask of me anything and if I could, I would get it. So she, knowing the rule, came to me and asked me what I loved most. I said to Her, "Beauty is what I love most because it is being the most desired maiden in all of the land."

And she said to me in reply, "I see. Aunt I would like a pre gift to help me choose."

I was puzzled by her request, but I obliged saying, "Anything you choose Tylla." And she asked of me my mirror, which answered any question you would ask it. And I told her to observe her great beauty in this mirror and tell me what she discovered when she came back.

I was hoping to find fault in her when she returned. Hoping she would ask for more beauty and then I could curse her. She asked the mirror what love is. And the mirror answered her, "Love is to put others before yourself. Love is finding the people that you wouldn't trade the world for. Love is waiting forever for someone. Love is ignoring social status and wealth. Love is going to the ends of the earth to be with someone. Love is forgiveness of the one who wronged you. Love is being able to let go for the sake of the one you love. And True Love is finding the person that fits you exactly and would stop at nothing to make you happy. I hope you find love princess. "

As I walked in, I then inquired Princess Tylla, "Now what is it that you wish for, my dear?"

Her large childlike blue eyes were shining with hidden dreams as she said to me, "Aunt what I want for most is to always have love. Not fake love, but True Love. The kind of love that your mirror described. I always want to have that."

I could have obliged because surely this is a reasonable gift. Everyone deserves one chance at love. But she asked to ALWAYS have love. This wasnt a most selfish thing to ask for, but I wanted her to feel the pain that I felt every day of her life. So, I granted her wish in my own sick twisted way.

Conjuring up the magic of centuries that had gone by in the forest, I began to chant a spell. It was a cursing spell. It was a spell that could only be removed by the one who cast it. I knew for a fact that I would not EVER revoke this curse.

Then I said, "My dear, Tylla. I grant you love forever. I grant you True Love. However, True Love comes with a price. Surely from this day on, every time you fall in love, you will die in a horrible way soon after you realize yourself that you love him. You will not remember his name, but in flashes of memory or dreams, you will see their faces and memories will torture you while you sleep and while you are awake. My dear, Tylla, you will be immortal but able to die. Every time you find love, you will die and resurrect as someone else. Your love will not find you ever and if they do, you will not remember them. You are forever cursed to never find them. You will look completely different and almost every memory you have with them will be wiped clean. So Tylla, I grant you my blessing as you fulfill your wish. There will only ever be one way out. Happy Birthday my dear."

She fled the room in horror and she died that night. She was found on the floor of her room with no visible wounds. She died of fear the first time, I have come to believe. I was not surprised. She would wake up the next day somewhere else. She would be a new person. She would be born from a different mother. She would never forget me although. And that was one of the only few flaws in my curse. The other was that she would also have brief glimpses of her previous family. And my last flaw was that she would never forget what the mirror said to her that day. Or what I said to her.

-------------------------------------

Everyone in the royal family was immortal. She could always find them back. But I prayed she never would.

I acted as if this was a horrible event but I was glad to be rid of her. When questioned by the family, I said I had no idea of what happened to her. They asked of me, "What was her request?"

I replied, "She wished for beauty. It is a pity though. She had plenty to spare."

He next day we mourned and after that, the family moved on.
I must say I missed way she would annoyingly wake me up early every morning with her beautiful voice. That is one part of her that I chose to leave alone; that and her eyes. They were too beautiful to change. They held the magic of the past, and the memory of centuries. They were eyes that had cried and seen too much. This may be proof that I do have mercy. Even for those I hate. However Tylla's story is a long one, and when she wakes up she will have a new name. And it will be White. Snow White.
