The Generals of the Dutch East Indies were gathered together on the port. They were lined up together, and being counted by their commanding officer. Johannes was among them, waiting anxiously to board the ship. He was barely listening to his commanding officer.
Then, when they were ordered to board the ship, Johannes made a quick gesture with his hand.
Kusuma immediately looked at Johannes while sneaking inside the ship. Step by step Kusuma walked in quietly and then saw there was a huge box that was at the corner of the room. She then walked there and got inside of the box while cramping herself inside.
As she curled up inside, plenty of conflicting thoughts rushed through her mind. The box was uncomfortable for sure, and she couldn't wait to leave. Not only that, but she was scared of what the Netherlands would be like. Would she fit in there, be accepted in their society?
But, at the same time, she felt that a life with Johannes was worth any obstacle. And she knew that they could overcome the obstacles together.
