My shift started very much ali=one since i was now the only one left. I used the time i had after cleaning up the place. Even if i did have visitors i didnt want them to see the blood shed. I had also decided that it would be a smart idea to board up the windows and show as if it had been abandoned.

I really didn't enjoy doing this by myself but i knew no one else was going to do it since well no one else was here. I heard a knock on the door and a small voice calling my name. I smiled because it was the only person in the world who knew what i did for a living much less where i lived.

It was my best friend, my only friend Beth. she was a down to earthy kind of woman who knew how to have a good time and take care of herself. We met at the bar she ran not too far from here and she was the kind if person i could talk to so i didnt lose my sanity.

'Beth you know damn well that if this place is closed up the way it is, that maybe you should avoid it.' i told her with a grin because i knew she would have a smartass remark. And that i didnt mind because it always humored me.
'Yes and you'll just have to get over me barging in.' she smiled and brought in some donuts and beer. She always knew how to make my nights better and i wouldn't be happier hanging out with anyone else.

Beth was different from the average human and one i could tolerate. She always helped me clean up any messes that ended up in this house.

'Do you think we'll ever leave this city?' she asked while popping the cap on one of her beers and taking a seat next to me on the balcony.
'I hope so. Doing something different for a change would be nice.' i replied.
We sat there for a moment until i heard some strange noise coming from the alley nearby. It was normal to hear stuff at night but i didnt like it being so close to the house.
'Stay here i hear some noise nearby.' i warned her and jumped off the balcony. It wasn't that high up so that jump didn't seem like much. The alley was dark as most nights were but without lights. These were perfect spots for Angels to seek out their prey. I didn't see anyone.
'come out whoever you are.' I shouted into the darkness. But I heard nothing. I walked forward a few more paces. Then I heard the most terrorized scream and not a person could miss it. It was Beth they have her. I raced back to the balcony and all was left was a note. I couldn't call anyone and she could be dead at any minute if I don't do as they say. The note they left have only a few scribbles of their demands.

"bring only yourself to Central Park with the next hour or the girl dies."

Well at least they didn't demand much I snickered as I jumped on my motorcycle and sped into traffic. Dying was the least of my worries but her life meant everything to me. Now how the hell am I supposed to make it all the way across New York city within an hour? I asked myself. I managed without being caught by law enforcement and sped my way on every back alley I could cross.

I made it to the park with thirty minutes to spare to look for these fools who wanted to challenge me. In the center of the park stood four men with standby hostages and one in the middle who held Beth who appeared to be comatose. I approached with caution knowing this standoff could end badly for all involved.
I decided I was the one who needed to speak first because they wanted me not anyone involved.

'you want me then you can have me but all five go free.' I told them as i laid my weapons that i carried and approached the man in the middle. In a swift move he took my arm in a firm grip that would normally hurt anyone I just needed to pretend like it hurt. They released all the hostages including Beth who amazingly came out of her deep sleep the moment she was released long enough to scream my name and watch them slit my throat and leave me for dead. I wasn't dead and they had no idea. They thought I was a mere mortal like the rest. Beth knew my secret and played along crying over me as they made their escape. She cut herself and fed me her blood.
