Last F2 was great. I won the championship. But now, I'm going into F1 . A dream come true. Aunt Alice is helping me pack my things. I'm so glad that she, Uncle Matthew and Callie are coming to my first F1 race.
"I think that's everything," I tell her.
"Are you sure?" she asks
"Yes I'm sure."
"You sure you don't want this?"
In her hands was a photo. It was a photo of me, my mum, Aunt Alice and Callie were sitting on the floor. While Callie was playing with her strawberry-blonde hair, I was playing with my car. Standing behind us was Aunt Alice and my mum. I felt a tear falling my cheek.
"It's ok, don't cry," Aunt Alice said calmly.
"I miss her."
"I know, I know. We all do."
I looked at my necklace. Mum got it for me. It's in the shape of a heart with a little moonstone on it. She told me it was a reminder to follow my dreams.
"I really want her to be here."
"I know. She'd be really proud of you."
I give her a little smile. Because I know she's right. My mum always wanted me to be a driver.
"We've got to get going. Don't want to be late for your flight."

I've got some new friends on the grid. Charles made me talk to them. I don't really like making new friends but Oscar and Carlos are nice. I haven't told them about my crush on Lando but I think they know. They saw me blushing when he smiled and waved at me. So I think it's kind of obvious.

The plane landed and I got off. I could see Charles, Lando, Oscar and Carlos sitting around a table chatting about whatever. I waved to my family and walked over to them. Oscar saw me and signalled me forward.
"Hi, Val," he called over.
"Are you alright, Pastry?" I asked him
"Yeh not too bad."
We all got up and went over to the car that would take us to the paddock. We were all chatting about random stuff from music to games I'm probably going to play with Lando for the McLaren channels.
"A nrf gun fight would be cool!" I said
"Yeh, we shod do that," Lando replied
"We could do a whole grid one," Oscar commented.
"That would be cool. We could do duos."
"What like teammates versus another set of teammates?" Charles piped up.
"Yeh, but with all the teams."
Lando smiled, "That would be chaotic, but fun."
"Exactly."
We continued to talk to each other until we got to the paddock, then we went over to our teams. Oscar ran to his new place at Aston Martin, Charles and Carlos went over to the Ferrari garage and me and Lando jogged over to McLaren.
"There you are!" exclaimed John, McLaren's publicity guy. "You excited, Val?"
"Yep, very" I answered.
"Right, so there's some interviewers through there," he said pointing through the door. "They'll probably ask you some questions and stuff you might not want to talk to about. If so, just tell them."
I nodded knowing that there will definitely be some topics I don't feel comfortable sharing. Lando sensed this and whispered in my ear.
"Don't worry, I'll be by your side."
I

gave him a small smile and we both walked through the door.
The interviewer saw us and spoke to us, "Ah, hello. Please sit down." He motioned over to a pair of chairs. Me and Lando sat down. "So I'm going to ask you some questions first Val and then I'll move onto Lando. Firstly, how excited are you for your first Formula 1 grand prix?"
"I'm very excited and I feel very honoured to have this opportunity to drive with a great team and teammate." Me and Lando smiled at each other. My cheeks turned red and I swear I saw him blush too but I'm probably imaging things.
The interviewer gave us a glance of suspicion and carried on with his questions, "Val, what would you say to the young girls out there who dream of being a driver?"
"I say this to anyone, not just young children. Follow your dreams. Because if you don't try then it's certain you won't get there, but if you do then you have a chance."
"And who inspired you to follow your dreams?"
"My mum," I smiled
'Ahh, your mum. I think I speak for all your fans when I say we would like to know more about your family. Could you tell us please."
Snap. The question I was dreading. I started fidgeting with my necklace and feeling faint. Luckily, Lando was still by my side. He put his hand on my shoulder and informed the interviewer, "I don't think that Val is comfortable answering that question."
"Thanks," I mouth and he gives me an understanding smile.
"OK," the interviewer said, a little disappointed. "I'll ask you some questions now Lando."
He asked Lando questions about how he thinks the car might have improved and how he feels about having me as a teammate. But I had zoned out. I'm glad I have Lando by my side. And my sights are set for Friday. When I get onto a track in an F1 car for the first time.
