Artemis...
I laughed when I heard Welsey scream.
Well that's what he gets for dyeing his twin brother's pubic hair white.
They were disgusting like that.
I packed up my bag and went around the house making sure all the electrical appliances were turned off.
Fire could come from something as small as a switch and I wasn't taking any risks.
"I'm off" I screamed as I walked towards the front door.
"Help me!!!" Welsey screamed at the same time Wiley screamed "Bye!!!"
I shook my head laughing to myself as I left the house.
I walked down the street greeting and waving at anyone and everyone.
They responded with a wave or a smile of their own.
The town was a small one where everyone knew each other and were nice to each other.
And that's why I'm happy here and plan to spend the rest of my life waiting tables.
Not much but it's perfect.
"Good morning uncle" I said greeting the figure behind the sink.
"Finally, Belle. What took you so long?"
I grabbed an apron before turning to face Uncle Jim.
"Welsey dyed Wiley's hair white"
"Good, I get to tell the difference between them. Welsey has black hair while Wiley's hair is is white"
Poor Uncle Jim still couldn't tell the difference between his two nephews and his bad eyesight wasn't helping matters.
I shook my head already feeling bad about disappointing Uncle,"Not that hair, uncle"
He turned to stare at me, "Which other hair?"
I bit my lips hard to prevent the strings of laughter that were about to escape.
"The private hair?"
My voice grew softer as I explained to him.
It took Uncle Jim a few minutes before he finally understood.
"Oh My Goodness" Uncle yelled, his face pulled together in disgust.
I bursted out laughing while Uncle began to murmur to himself.
I began setting pastries in the showcase while trying hard not to think of the dream I had last night.
The fire incident and Brody were now both haunting my dreams.
It's been three months since Uncle Jim took me in.
I was too old to be in foster care because I'm nineteen and the fact other kids younger than me lost their homes as well, the foster care homes around didn't have a room to spare.
And that's when Uncle Jim came in.
He was in the hospital that night to receive treatment because of a stomach ache and was on his way home when he saw me getting comfortable in the reception.
The doctors dismissed me after giving me a few meds which I had no money to pay for.
I should be grateful for at least getting free meds, right?
Uncle Jim walked towards me and asked me if I wanted a place to stay.
My silence he took as a yes and then took me home.
I was obviously still in shock until the next morning when I found myself in a different room.
I shouldn't have gone with him but at that time I really didn't care.
I just wanted a place to stay and he provided that.
Plus the odds of crossing paths with Brody didn't cross my mind at that time.
"Go back to work, Arty. I'll go back home to make sure they haven't killed each other yet" Uncle Jim's voice cut through my train of thoughts.
I nodded at him with a smile, "It's okay, uncle. I got this"
He gave me a big thumbs up before leaving.
I sighed and resumed my previous actions.
Keeping pastries in the showcase.
