Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.

That is my life now. Cameras everywhere, reminding myself every moment the reason to breathe.  Him. He was the reason I used to breathe for a year. Now he's no more.

One Year Ago.

The nightclub pulsed with dim lights and thumping music, enveloping Ruby in a haze of champagne and laughter. She swirled through the crowd, her steps syncopated to the rhythm of the night.

Glass in hand, she aimed for her best friend Cynthia, but collided with a solid figure. "Shouldn't you be saying sorry to me?" she said.

"Why should I apologize? You bumped into me first," retorted the figure.

"Just apologize and I'll forget this ever happened," Ruby demanded, her patience thinning.

"No," he countered.

Annoyance flared within Ruby. "Stop causing a scene! Some of us have a reputation here. Listen, whatever your name is, just apologize and I'll forget this ever happened."

The boy, Parker, held his ground. "Parker Phoenix Blackwood," he introduced himself, the name igniting a flicker of recognition in Ruby's mind.

"You're my new personal assistant?" Ruby's disbelief lingered in the air.

Parker's expression hardened, the dim lighting casting shadows across his features. "Yes, that's me," he affirmed, his tone curt.

Ruby's lips curved into a slight smile. "Well, isn't this a twist?"

Parker sighed, frustration evident in his demeanor. "We started off on the wrong foot today. Let's not let that implicate our professional relationship, shall we?"

The exchange hung in the air, a tentative bridge between two worlds colliding unexpectedly in the pulsating heart of the nightclub.
