After school, Rattles heads to the ice cream shop.

"Hey, Rattles, I can't play chess right now," Brain says.

"It's okay; actually, I came for some ice cream and a talk," Rattles says.

"Can it wait? I'm kind of working."

"Go ahead Alan, your friend needs you," Mrs. Powers comes out of the back.

"Are you sure?" Brain asks.

"Yes, go to the Sugar Bowl."

"Thanks Mom," Brain says kissing her on the cheek.

They walk into the Sugar Bowl, order, and sit down.

"So, what's going on?" Brain asks.

"So, my mom and my step-dad told me and my step-siblings that she is pregnant."

"Congratulations," Brain says enthusiastically.

"Thanks."

"What's wrong?" Brain asks, realizing his friend isn't excited.

"It's just that I'm still getting used to being a regular brother. How am I going to be a good big brother?"

"Have you tried talking to Binky and Molly?"

"They both said they couldn't help, which makes sense since Molly was four when James was a baby and Mei-lin was adopted."

"It is true that preparing for an adoption is different than preparing for a birth."

"They said I should try asking Arthur," Rattles says, taking a bite of his ice cream.

"Well, Arthur does have two little sisters," Brain says.

"I'm just afraid he will say no; I was pretty mean to him when we were pushing everyone around," Rattles says.

"You could apologize to him," Brain suggests.

"But will he accept it and help me?"

"Arthur is very forgiving," Brain says.

"But will he help me?"

"You never know unless you try. If you want, I can go with you to ask him," Brain offers.

"That would be great," Rattles says taking his last bite of banana split.

"But I should warn you about his sister," Brain says.

"D.W.? She is so sweet, well except that time," Rattles says.

"Should I ask?"

"You should not, but what about D.W.?"

"She will try to make Arthur look like a bad brother but just trust him, he is a good one," Brain says.

"Okay."

"So, shall we go see him?"

"I guess," Rattles says.

Both leave the Sugar Bowl and head to the Reads.
