"I've got a new hire," I explain over the phone

"I've got a new hire," I explain over the phone.

"A new hire? What happened to Emma?" My mother asks.

"She wasn't the right fit," I say, not entirely lying, but also keeping information out of it.

"Anyways, what's the new hire like?" she asks. I can tell she's getting tired of me firing my secretaries, who also doubles as my assistant.

"Valentino interviewed her. I trust he could find the right secretary for me, and to come to my office once he's found someone he thinks might be the right one. He did after the interview with a girl today." I explain.

"Oh, what's her name?" she asks.

"Mabel Daniels, she's straight out of college, so I won't have to right any previous wrong-doings," I say. Which translates to anything I don't approve of or like.

"She's a fresh canvas then, huh?" mom says, and I nod, knowing she can't see me.

"I hope she's the right fit, because I'm truly getting tired of training new staff." Just as I finish the sentence, there's a knock at the door. "Speaking of, I've got to go, she's here," I say.

"Please don't fire this one too," mom ends the conversation with. I shake my head, hanging up.

The curtains are closed on the windows out towards the other offices, so I don't get a glimpse at the woman I've hired. I open the door, where Valentino stands.

"Mr. Allen, this is Miss Daniels, the woman I interviewed for the position," he explains, stepping to the side. A young woman comes to view, with a pretty smile. She stretches her hand out, and I accept it. We shake hands, her grip firm. Good. I hate it when people can't do a proper handshake.

"Hi, I'm Miss Daniels, Mabel Daniels," she begins. "Thank you for hiring me," she finishes.

"You'll need training, seeing as you're straight out of college, but I trust it won't be difficult to follow my orders, seeing as no one has taught you anything on being a secretary before," she nods, keeping a tight smile.

"Of course, I trust I'll be easy to teach, I'm not a hard learner." she says. Her sentences scream confidence, and I aspire that.

"Great, we'll begin the simple training with teaching you our software. Valentino, you can head on out now," I dismiss him, and he nods, heading for the elevators. He probably has other applicants for the other secretary job as well. "Come on in," I invite Mabel inside my office, closing the door behind us.

"This building is magnificent," she says, a light in her eyes. She stares out over the city. "Did you build this firm from scratch?" she begins, before her eyes widen. "Shit, I should have looked more into this before applying,"

"You didn't think you'd get the job?" I ask, curiosity spiking.

"Honestly? No. I knew it was a big firm, and seeing as I haven't heard back from the previous interviews at smaller locations, I didn't think a big firm would accept me," she spills out.

"It's probably a bit unprofessional, but how can no firms want to accept a woman straight out of college? I need experience," she rambles. "I'm sorry, sometimes I ramble,"

"Well, at least you've got a job now," I say. She nods with a kind smile. "Alright, let's begin training." I say, and we head over to my desk. I grab one of the chairs in the office, sitting down on it in front of my computer.

I signal her to take a seat in my chair. A shocked expression takes over her face, before she calms it and sits down.

"You have your own username and password to log into your account," I open a drawer, grabbing a post-it. I write down the name abbreviation we use for usernames, which would equal to 'ma.daniels' and write down the temporary password.

"This is your user and password, feel free to change the password at any given time, but your username stands. Everyone in the office has a similar username, so it's easy to identify. Try and log in," I say, pointing to the screen.

She nods, her fingers gracing the keyboard as she types in the letters. "There," she says after logging in.

"Now, open the 'meetings' menu. That's where you can keep a tab on both mine and your meetings. Mine are highlighted in green, while yours are purple. The meetings are also marked with room numbers, so you'll find the way. The first two digits tells you which floor" She opens the menu, looking at it.

"Now, there's another tab there, called 'appointments', that's where you find people scheduled to come meet me in my office, and not a meeting room around the building. You can also schedule appointments there, for when someone calls in, requesting one. You do not have to run it by me first, that's what you're there for," I explain. She looks around the menu.

"Got it," she says. "There's also some other tabs there, but they're not that relevant, you learn as you go. Your email is also your username, and the same password, unless you change it. Anyone requesting an appointment with me at the reception will be sent to you, got it?" I say and she nods, a smile on her face.

"Good, now you can go around, introduce yourself to your new co-workers," I say.

She stands up, thanks me for my time and heads out the door, closing it softly behind her. I sit back into my own chair, logging out of her account and into my own.

I can monitor her work from my account, an important addition on my end. That's how I caught Emma. How she wasn't doing her job and sharing corporate secrets to other companies, challenging me. I fired her instantly. She begged me to keep her job, but I'm not an easy guy when it comes to sharing private information to other firms.

She simply wasn't deserving of the job, so I had Alejandro deal with her properly. Mabel has no idea what she's gotten herself into.
