Rose started her morning off like any other; sipping at her jasmine green tea and getting deep into her latest favourite novel; Love at First Bite.
She had sat at her usual spot at the cafe of the local library, the same place she had been going to every morning now ever since graduating high school. It became a routine. It was safe there.
But something felt different. Rose had studied each patron of the library very closely, taking a mental note of the people the would frequent the building around the same times and days as her.
The older gentleman in his mid 50s who had a slight divorced-dad look to him, always reading the morning paper with his black coffee.
The two teenage girls that would come in before their classes start to "study", but instead chose to laugh hysterically and gossip about their other classmates.
The young teacher in her mid thirties who always had a forced smile whenever you'd pass, rushing to mark her students work that she didn't have time to finish the night before.
But Rose noticed an outlier in the pattern. Someone new. Someone who had never stepped foot in the library.
Her gaze drifted away from her book as her attention was dead set on the figure, now walking directly towards her. Then she was him.
"Excuse me miss, is this seat taken?"
Before Rose even had time to process what was happening, the man pulled out the chair opposite her and sat down. A cheeky yet husky chuckle seeped out of his lips.
Early to mid twenties, he's wearing a light blue button up and formal dress pants. Black shoes to match. His light brown, curly hair matched perfectly with the mix of his blue/green eyes. And his grin... it's the kind of grin you'd put on after saying an amazing yet detailed insult during an argument. It's a cocky grin. Worn by someone who knows how clever they're. And how damn fucking handsome they're too.
Rose noticed how long she must have been staring at him for, and quickly drew her sight back to the novel in her hand. A deep set blush slipped over her cheeks, she could feel his piercing eyes locked onto her.
After taking a slow breath, Rose regained control of her voice.
"Although that seat is technically not taken, I am not use to other company sitting next to me. Let alone a man such as yourself, a total stranger. What exactly do you want from me?"The man's expression changed, to a softer, more caring look. He took a deep sigh, and leaned back against the chair.
There was a pause.
She felt his hand gently caress the top of hers, making her heart skip a beat in suspense and slight sexual confusion.
He looked Rose dead in the eyes."Look, I don't know any nice kinda way to say this, so I'm just gonna give it to you straight... "
