"Zara si baat pe jab hansti hain tu,
Hansti hain meri zindagi."* * *
"Aarohi didi!!"
Turning the knob to the other side, jerking her hands once, she turned to the direction where she figured the voice came from, wiping her wet palms over the sides of her black skirt, an advantage of darker school uniforms for young people- considerably for the hasty students such as her.
There, she noticed the boy approaching her, his swift strides trying to cover the meagre distance between the washing point and his scrawny figure, his face slapped with agitation as though he had just committed a grave crime.
"What is it, Samarth?" Her brows knitted while observing the junior before her as he breathed harshly, most probably he had been running his way till he spotted her.
"Can you tell me where Saloni didi is?" He asked, nervously shifting his weight to his other foot.
"She is in my class-" she began, trying to make out what could be wrong this time, "did something happen?"
"It's principal ma'am. Saloni didi is asked to report to her right now-" he blurted out, his words having little to no space in between, blinking rapidly, clearly uncomfortable at how he was being assessed.
"What?! Saloni? But why would she-" she stopped mid-sentence, her mind trying to recall anything that could've been the reason for this, unsurprisingly only one thing-or rather, only one person came to her mind, "It's Ved again?"
Samarth was silent for a brief moment, fidgeting on his spot with Aarohi watching him keenly until his lips played out a small, nervous smile, as he nodded.
Of course. She frowned, shaking her head. Who else would be behind this whole thing if not the one and only- Vedant Mehra? After all, being the head troublemaker of the school had been one of his top priorities."Alright, I'll go tell her," she muttered, turning on her heels to pace towards the section-C class, "are you coming with me?" She asked, over her shoulders, watching Samarth shaking his head, "I've to go to the match, you know."
Aarohi nodded once, in a way to let him know she got this, and continued on her way, walking through the crowded hallway; section 'C' classroom was up ahead at the end of the route, and she hoped Saloni would be done with her lunch. That girl was already late to come saying she had been held back by Mrs Mathur the biology teacher of her section, and while Aarohi was done with hers, Saloni kept talking, so she came alone to wash her greasy hands today.
Stepping into the class, her eyes immediately fell on her best friend trying to wash her hands with her water bottle through the window, "Oye! What even are you doing?!" She shrieked, rushing her way towards the last bench, "That's the garden you're washing your hands into, stupid. Do you want to get scolded?!"
Saloni laughed. Typical of her; Aarohi knew this was what she was to receive. Saloni never listened to anyone, nor that she ever bothered by what others opined about her.
"You worry too much Roohi, nobody would even notice," she joked, half smiling, keeping the bottle on the desk, "Besides, am I not watering the plants?" Her eyes twinkled while she faced Aarohi, pointing towards the marigold bushes she was washing her hands upon.
