Chicken lasagna.
Boiled potatoes.
Pasta.
Salad. Rich,creamy salad. So colourful.
Plump roasted chicken.
Rice. White rice.
Sweet corn.
Strawberry shake.
Sparkling water.
My parents.
His parents.
At a big dinner table.
At the Woods'.
Yep that's me. You're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation. That Tiktok sound kept replaying in my head non-stop.
I had a mini heart attack when I looked up to see five pairs of eyes looking at me. Apparently, I was giggling out loud when my brain actually assured me that it was all in my head.
I cleared my throat to take their eyes of me and soon enough everyone went back to default. I muttered some curse words as I stabbed my chicken with so much force that you'd feel sorry for the poor thing. However, the one thing I couldn’t stand was the burning gaze on my right.
Geez! Have some shame!
I turned around to see him stiffle a laugh and then he plastered a large smirk on his face. He was literally burning a hole through me with his scrutinizing look.
"You know you're not so subtle and quiet about expressing your thoughts right?" He asked and then took a sip of water in the glass before him.
I mentally slapped myself and my mouth. My mouth was simply not helping me. I stared at him for a few seconds and then turned my attention to my boiled potatoes which had suddenly become 'interesting '. Good looking potatoes if you ask me.
"Are you seriously going to ignore me?"
I looked over at him knowing very well that he was speaking to me. I looked over at our parents who were engrossed in what seemed like business. I scoffed. Typical business men and women.
Then I continued staring at my food. The food was acting great so I focused on it. I groan internally as I turned to face him for what seemed like the umpteenth time. He was behaving like a jerky hormonal teenager right now. Gosh! Just let me be already!
"First you walk and text at the same time, very uncivilised. Then you ignore your host in his own home. What other surprises do you have for me?" He asked and narrowed his eyes at me giving me a quizzical look.
"Well for starters, I did not want to be here. I only came because our parents insisted. As much as you'd like for me to admit it,yes, I can't stand being in the same space with you. Just meeting you for the second time and I dislike you already. "
He looked taken aback. He probably wasn't expecting to hear those words from me. Well,he got it all wrong.
I'd never met a guy as cocky as him. So arrogant and jerky. All those bad elements were trapped in that gorgeous body. So disastrous.
"Well sweetie,I don't like you either." He shot back and continued his food.
My mind drew back to the dance. The dance. How can you just drag someone to the dancefloor? And without prior notice at that.
Elsie wouldn't stop talking about that night. My mom, like the true drama queen she was, kept winking at me as I spotted her on the dancefloor.I cringed every single moment I remembered it. Just when I thought I was escaping that horrible ordeal, my mom and Uncle Rover came to me to tell me that we'd be having dinner at the Woods' the next day. And that next day was today.
"I know your type. Behave like the typical innocent girl. Get everyone to like you and then unmask your real devilish character. That's why I just play with them.Good luck with the act." He said and excused himself from the table.
Geez! Someone needed healing. That was very wild. Who hurt him?
I literally rolled my eyes and took a sip of my fruit juice. My eyes darted to the old folk. Rover's wife, Sylvia, was a very warm and welcoming person. Their son was nothing like them. I scoffed.
I whipped out my phone and started texting. It was going to be a long night. And since the old folk were having a warm and fun conversation which I couldn't relate to,it looked like I was going to be all by myself.
Rover noticed and offered for me to take a look at the rest of the house which I gladly jumped up to. I was dying of boredom.
There was wealthy and there was wealthy. The Woods were definitely the second one. Their hallway was tiled and a fancy chandelier hang in the middle as other mini lights lighted the place giving the hallway an ambiance.
I stopped by a door closely examining it. It looked like a study to me. I gently turned the knob and opened it. I turned around to face the room and then I let out a very loud scream.
"You scared the hell out of me." I said and took in short breaths to calm my pacing heart.
