Ever since I moved to Scotland things have been absolutely shit. Everyone is rude and I don't get why. Are they like this to everyone or just foreigners? The school system is also just as bad, I get in trouble for the smallest of things. Why?

My dad got a job in Scotland and he didn't want to travel back to Hungary every year because that would cost far too much money, so we decided to move to Scotland, when I was 5 years old. I didn't know how to speak English at all, I only knew Hungarian.

Of course after just a month of living there my mum and dad made me join a primary school, but at 5?! Back in Hungary I would have only started at 6 or 7, but 5?! When we finally got to see the school and which class I would be joining of course I was hiding behind my dad, I didn't feel happy one bit. While my mum and dad were talking to one of the teachers some boy came up to me and probably said "hi" or introduced himself but I did not understand anything he was saying. My parents were obviously happy that another child came up to me and even tried to talk but I kept my mouth shut, eyes stuck to the ground.

Finally, after what felt like years of being in that school we finally got to leave and go back to this house that was always cold and the walls were paper thin. At night I still had to sleep on a fucking mattress with my mum and sister on the floor, we didn't even have a bed yet. Crying was the only thing I wanted to do while everyone else was asleep but I knew I couldn't because they would wake up and be caring for once, so I kept the tears in.

The next morning my dad had left for work and my mum was at the shops, my sister and brother were upstairs playing together, I nearly cried. I was forced to leave my best friends, the amazing food and weather, the fun, everything behind all for a cold, annoying, weird speaking country. A single tear hit the paper as I was drawing with my favourite colours but I quickly stopped anymore tears from falling as I heard some keys jingling.

Soon the door opened and my mum came in, carrying shopping bags full of food and some small furniture, for the first time I didn't run up to her and hug her tight. Weird. I put down my pen and rolled onto my back, staring up at the ceiling wondering why we can't just move back to Hungary, it was so much better back there. My mum was putting the food in the fridge and the furniture in the kitchen, waiting for my dad to come back from work so they can assemble it together. My stomach was grumbling so I got up from the floor and walked over to my mum and asked her if she could make a sandwich for me because I didn't know how to at 5 years old and I was too short to reach the counter.

Once she finished making my sandwich I ate it in a quick succession and then ran back into the living room and tried to turn the TV on and I actually managed to do it. Of course I didn't understand what anything on it said but I was able to get onto YouTube and watch some Hungarian folk tales as they were my favourite.

[ 1 Month Later ]

Today was my first day in primary school and I felt extremely nervous as we were walking there, I was gripping my mum and dad's hand tighter than I thought I could. After 5 minutes of walking we made it to my school and made our way to the primary 1 playground where I saw a lot of children my age but one thing that was different between me and them was that they were playing with each other whereas I was scared to even let go of my parents. The bell rang and everyone ran to hug their parents before lining up in front of the door, I did the same but with the tightest hugs possible and then hesitantly made my way to the end of the line.

All of the parents left and we were guided inside of the building and into a large class with lots of table, chairs and toys to play with. Everyone put their bags into a big red box and so did I and then  carefully walked over to a table in the corner, away from others. I grabbed a piece of paper and a few coloured pencils to draw with but I heard a pair of footsteps coming towards me so I lifted my head and saw a boy and a girl who seemed to be close friends. They decided to sit next to me and actually started talking but I didn't understand a single thing they were saying.

As the days passed, we had learned the entire alphabet and numbers from 1 to 10, surprisingly I found learning numbers easier and funner than the letters but I don't exactly know why. After learning the alphabet and understanding English a bit I learned that the boy's name was Kerr and the girl's name was Zara, how unique. Soon enough it was the end of the school day again and my parents came to pick me up, I came running to them with the biggest smile on my face. I reached them and hugged them as tight as I possibly could, never wanting to let go but knew I had to eventually. Finally I let go and we started walking home, holding both of my parent's hands, giggling since it was finally the summer holidays and we could go back to Hungary for a bit.
