CHAPTER 7
Freya looks at the clock hung on the wall. She just finished reading a book, she placed it next to the lamp on the bed side table and grab her phone. She hasn't used it since earlier, before she prepared for their dinner. She opens her phone and was bombarded with dozens of messages from her friends, most particularly, Adeleigh, there were plenty of missed calls from her as well.Scanning through her inbox,Freya cursed to herself.
Hey,are you up for tonight?
Sent: 6 pm.
C'mon,just this one Freya.
Sent: 6:30 pm.
I'm all set.
Are you really gonna pass again?C'mon!
Sent: 9 pm.
Im starting to get pissed.
Seriously?No reply?
Sent: 9:15 pm
I'm with Jo,we're on our way to Jayb's.
I'm giving you this one last chance.
I swear.
Was Adeleigh's last messages around 10 pm.That was more than an hour ago.Freya sits up straight, her back on the headboard. She quickly sent her a text.
Heeyy,I'm sorry I haven't checked my phone.
I wasn't ignoring you,you know.
She also sent a couple of messages to their group chat but as expected, none of them replied. They're at the party after all.
Freya stares at the device, rereading the messages sent to her.It made her think. It's almost twelve midnight, isn't it too late to come?Have they gone home? They're all probably half drunk by now, worse, wasted.Would her presence still matters?
Strangely, part of her wants to go,it's not about the party, nor the drinks, obviously, those are not even in her options.Maybe it's because Adeleigh invited her?Maybe because it was the first time she persuaded her instead of respecting her constant refusals?Maybe she likes how for some inconclusive basis someone actually would want her to be included even if she always shuts her door for such? It's probably the first time in a long while since a persistent person didn't irritates her.
And that makes her wonder, but she ain't going to focus on that one for now.The matter is,if she will go to the said club house contrary to what she has planned tonight,or just stay in her room and go to sleep, like she was about to do after reading the book. They'll understand,
won't they? Adeleigh will consider, right?Well,it's not new to her friends, anyway. She sighed and looks at the door.Amidst self debate, her phone rings out indicating a new message. Swiping it up,it was a message from Lauren, asking her if she could pick her up after midnight.
Her instinct was fast as she quickly jumped off the bed and hastily opens her closet to change. It was faster than her supposed judgement, and that is,to stay. But Lauren only hailed a cab to go to Jayb's, her vehicle is still on the mechanic, lined up for repair. Since her friends are known to be heavy drinkers,it's not safe to let them drive her home,so she really needs to go,so she could bring her home, safely.
Grabbing her jacket on the rack, she left the room before her mind can argue against her.
-
It took Adeleigh some time before she recomposed herself. Her chest still feels heavy, not a single part of wants to stay for even a little more while, her knees feel like they're about to give in, but she told herself to fight her emotions.
