JAKE POV
"it's so weird thinking that you're living here now" nadine says to me
nadine for the past few days has been coming over to the house to comfort me and i really appreciate it. it's nice to have someone to talk to.
"tell me about it. i haven't unpacked all my stuff yet. i just dont believe that this is my place forever now.. well until i get my own place of course" i say
"yeah once you get married to devon and you guys move in together" nadine jokes
"shut up!" i say, smacking her arm "..but he did give me his number.." i mutter
"WHAT?" she screams
"nadine quiet! junior is still here" i shush her
"SORRY.. sorry! why didn't you tell me this what? how? when? where? why? why have you kept this a secret? oh my god jacob wheeler tell me now" nadine begs
"alright alright! let me speak! it was the night.. everything happened but. me and my dad argued so i just went outside like i always do to clear my mind. next thing i know im at the convenience store and devon is there as well. we talk, then we look at the moon, then we leave and he asks me for my number so we can talk" i explain to nadine "but before i could even process anything that happened, police cars were already swarmed outside of my house"
"oh my god, how did you even manage to control your emotions that night?" nadine asks
"i didn't. i was like almost numb. and then to top it all off, his mother was the detective in the case AND my interrogator. i had to confess to her that i was with her son devon, to avoid being arrested" i respond
"my goodness, so you ratted him out to his own mother? dang that's some like unlucky ass shit" she tells me
"story of my life. thank god he wasn't mad at me." i say
"of course, he could never be mad at his boo boo bear" nadine teases
"ugh yeah right, just because he cares how im doing after my dad died, it doesn't mean he's all of a sudden gay and attracted to me!" i groan to nadine
"whatever, im just glad you have devon. he was able to reach out asap, im sorry i would've reached out too but no one told me till like two days later" nadine says
"im sorry, i would've told you right away but so much was going on i didn't even want to think about it" i respond "plus he may or not be coming over later today.."
"WHAT? you invited him over?" nadine exclaims
"no! i wish, he's grounded because of me so i don't even know. but his sister eleyna is coming and when she does he usually comes as well" i say
"well text him! see if he's coming" nadine says
"are you crazy? i'm going to sound like a creep. he's going to think i'm like obsessed with him or something" i complain
"are you kidding me jake? my god stop overthinking it, just say something simple" nadine says, grabbing my phone from the nightstand and handing it to me
"fine." i huff
DEVON POV
"please mom!" i beg
"devon i said no, your actions have consequences" she responds sternly, grabbing her keys from the counter
"please mom, i'll be on my best behavior from now on!" i plead
"no devon! you need to learn, keep on begging and I'll take away your phone next" she shouts "and if you let him go, you'll be punished next" my mom says to eleyna before leaving to work
