Almost one year since sally had been in the accident still having nightmares about it. "mom!" Sally cried out to her mother in fear as if the darkness of the room was going to consume her. The room door opens and the light is switched on "whats wrong?" Her mother Jenn asked "I had a nightmare" said Sally in a shaken voice. Jenn sits down on the bed "I'll put the lamp on so you can go to bed ok?" Sally just nodded.
Jenn stands up from the bed and walks over the the vanity and turns the lamp on. And then turns the ceiling light off. The soft and fuzzy glow of the lamp on the vanity was almost relaxing. It was enough to make her fall asleep peacefully even more so knowing its Saturday and there is no school. Eventually its enough to make her fall asleep the night is still and silent.
Sally wakes up in the morning rubbing her eyes and yawning before just laying there in bed. For a moment Sally just lays there in bed not moving just thinking what wonders she could do today. With no resistance of the school day holding her back from the things she wants to do. Sitting up on the bed she can smell breakfast being cooked by her mother. Stretching as Sally sits on the bed she goes downstairs to find Jenn her mother making pancakes.
Sally sits at the dinner table getting a fork and knife to eat her breakfast. Jenn turns off the stove and puts the pancakes on a plate. The syrup running off the pancakes like a waterfall at the the end of a river. Sally eats the pancakes as she watches Jenn, her mother leave the house for the store. Sally is almost done eating the pancakes each bite is like eating into a cloud. As she finnishes eating the pancake Sally brings the dish to the sink. Finally Alone in the house Sally walks around exploring the same house she had lived in for years. Christmas was just around the corner soon they would put the tree up.
Sally skips along in the house the old and worn out carpet soft beneath her feet. Sallys dog named Prudence is sleeping in the next room over on the dog bed. As Sally reaches the room where Prudence is sleeping she opens the door slowly so as to not wake him. The only light illuminating the room is coming from the window where the sunlight is just enough to see where everything is.
Sally grabs a flashlight from the dresser and shines it at the drawer looking for batteries to put in the radio because it had died the day prior. As she looks only finds an open pack with four cells left. Picking them up Sally puts them into her pocket and turns around in doing so finds Prudence had walked out of the room. As Sally walks towards the door to the room hearing the sound of barking.
Prudence almost never barks unless it's something serious or somebody comes home. Putting the flashlight down Sally leaves the room into the hall. The pink and rose colored stripes on the kept strange yet fuzzy and fun memories. Soon those memories would soon become a piece of history. As Sally walked cautiously down the stairs toward the basement, the sound of Prudence's barking echoed through the house. Her heart pounded in her chest, her palms sweaty as fear and curiosity battled within her. The pink and rose-colored stripes on the wallpaper seemed to blur and dance in the dim light, adding an eerie atmosphere to the already tense moment.
She gripped the railing, her knuckles turning white as she reached the bottom of the stairs. The basement was shrouded in darkness, the air thick with an ominous stillness. Prudence's barks grew louder and more urgent, coming from the far corner of the room. "Sally, be careful," a voice whispered in her mind, sounding eerily like her mother's. She shook her head, pushing the thought away, and continued forward, the beam of her flashlight cutting through the darkness.
As the light swept across the room, a glint of something metallic caught her eye. Sally's heart skipped a beat as she approached the source of the sound, her breath catching in her throat. And then, with a sudden rush of adrenaline, she made a discovery that sent shivers down her spine. "Mom, Mom!" Sally screamed but her mom had left for the store. Sally felt helpless her voice filled with disbelief and horror.
She heard a crashing sound echoing through the walls. Her heartbeat quickenedmore, and with fear gripping her chest. She clutched the flashlight tightly in her hands. The beam cutting through the darkness ahead like cuttting a loaf of bread with a knife. The pink and rose colored stripes on the walls seemed to be closing in on her, creating a strange sensation.
Suddenly, Prudence's loud barking pierced the silence, sending shivers down Sally's spine. She dropped the flashlight in shock, its beam flickering wildly. As she bent down to pick it up, a cold breath brushed against the back of her neck, causing her to freeze. With a trembling hand Sally turns around slowly, her heart pounding in her ears. Standing before her was a monstrous creature with fleshy red skin and its face replaced by a gaping hole lined with razor sharp teeth. Sally's scream was drowned out by Prudence's petrified barking.
The monster lunged forward, its arms and claws streched out. Sally closed her eyes, accepting her fate. The creature's claws pierced her killing her almost instantly. Darkness consumed her as she let out one final sound, a choked gasp that echoed through the basement.
The house fell silent once more, the only sound being Prudence's mournful howls, mourning the loss of his beloved companion. As Prudence mourns over his owner's death the wet red and fleshy creature turns to the dog. Prudence stands up slowly backing away his tail swept beneath his legs. The monster then leaped forward and killed the dog in one motion of its claw.
The house fell silent once more, the only sounds being is the monster slipping back into the darkness of the basement. And the blood of Sally and Prudence now dripping onto the stairs. No one would ever know the true horror that lurked in the basement hidden from the outside world.
