After making it back home, a flood of things hit Santino hard. Reality hit, forcing him to realize he had a baby girl whose mother he had killed. There was no way he could take care of her as she needed. Hell, she didn't even have a name, not that he knew of. Plus, he knew nothing about caring for a baby, which stressed him out. She was crying, and he had done everything possible to calm her, but nothing seemed to work. At the moment, he was walking around with her crying in his arms while feeling like he wanted to join her.
"Need help?" Before Santino could respond, the girl had cradled the baby from his arms. Soon as she touched her chest, she stopped crying, which was bullshit. He had changed, fed, and sang to the child, and nothing worked, but she walked in, taking her, and immediately she hushed. He didn't understand what she had done differently that he wasn't. The child hated him... his child hated him.
"What are you doing differently than me?"
"You're stressed, and babies can feel that. Think of it this way: when your body is tense, it gives an infant a negative emotion. They feed off that, and in response, they cry, and as long as you're upset, they will be." She explained, and all Santino heard was a bunch of bullshit. "I know that look. It's the same one my Dad gives when he thinks I'm talking a lot of bullshit."
"I'm not stressed...."
"You are, and you have a reason to be, Santino. You, my Dad, and the others just survived a traumatic event. You could have died, and it's weighing on you. Talking about it helps, and I'm here to listen if you like. I'm also here to help with her. All you have to do is ask." She was sweet, and Santino shouldn't have been drawn to her like he was. The woman he thought he loved betrayed him, which led him to kill her and to make things worse, San hadn't even confronted his mother about her lies.
"What's her name?"
"I haven't named her yet, and if Terina named her, I didn't think to ask." He sighed as he looked at his phone. Maybe Skylar was right. He was a little stressed. He had been waiting to hear from his cousin since they left Japan. He always called to ensure him he was okay, but days had passed, and San hadn't heard a word from Ryan, which worried him. He had tried to call the man multiple times and track his phone but got nothing on both ends. "I don't have to be a baby or an animal to see you are stressed about something. You can talk to me; I've been told by a few people that I'm a great listener."
"Sì, I haven't heard from my cousin in a few days. That's unusual for him... before you question me. Yes, I have called the others we left behind, and they haven't heard from him either." Skylar smiled, which caused him to give her a small one back. She made him feel sane when his world felt like it was turning for the worse.
"I'm sure he's okay. Ryan looks like he's capable of handling himself. I know this doesn't help, but I'm sure he's okay. How about you name your little angel?"
"First, tell me, how are you so good at this?" He asked after noticing his daughter was sleeping in her arms. Sadly, he was scared to take her... afraid she would wake and start screaming her head off. "I'm the oldest of four. I had to help my Dad out when they were over. I guess I learn a thing or two caring for my siblings." She shrugged, making him smile as he held his arms out to take her. Instead, Skylar turned to the baby crib, lying the sleeping baby down.
