As I make my way back from the shops, a sense of relief washes over me. It's a relief knowing that Elsa is safe at home and that she managed to navigate using the phone in case of any emergencies. However, I can't shake off the feeling of unease that's been growing in me ever since I left her home alone. Upon arriving home, I quickly make my way to the front door, juggling the bags of clothes and groceries in my arms. Unlocking the door, I step inside and close it behind me, exhaling a breath I didn't realize I was holding. "Elsa, I'm back!" I call out, setting the bags down on the table.
No response.
My heart skips a beat as worry floods my mind. "Elsa?" I call out again, a hint of panic creeping into my voice as I make my way through the house, checking each room. Finally, I find her sitting on the couch, staring intently at the phone in her hands. Relief floods through me as I see that she's unharmed. "Hey, Elsa, everything alright?" I ask, trying to keep my voice calm despite the panic still lingering within me.
She looks up at me, a mixture of relief and uncertainty in her eyes. "Y/N, I... I got scared. I know you werent gone for long, but I didn't know what to do," she admits, her voice trembling slightly.
I immediately move to sit beside her, putting a hand on her back in a comforting gesture. "Hey, it's okay. I'm here now," I reassure her, squeezing her gently. "You did the right thing by staying here. I'm proud of you for being so brave."
Elsa nods, leaning into my chest as she lets out a shaky breath. "I'm sorry for getting scared. I just... I don't want anything to happen to you," she whispers, her voice filled with genuine concern.
I feel a pang of guilt wash over me at her words. It's clear that Elsa sees me as more than just a caretaker, she sees me as someone she cares deeply about, perhaps even as a friend or family member. And yet, here I am, keeping her from all the experiences of the world.
"I promise, Elsa, I'll always do everything in my power to keep you safe," I vow. "But there are some things we need to talk about, like you going outside."
Elsa looks up at me, confusion and fear evident in her eyes. "What do you mean? I haven't been outside, I promise" She begins franticly rambling on.
"No, I know you haven't, I meant Id take you outside. We'll start small like a walk round the block or to the park and work up to things like shopping centres. If thats something you want
"I thought that the outside was dangerous, and that I shouldn't go out there."
"You've learned a lot in just a day and a half, Elsa. And while there are dangers outside, there's also so much beauty to explore. We just need to make sure you know how to stay safe, and we stick together, no wondering off, or running ahead."
Elsa's expression softens as she considers my words. "I... I think I'd like that," she admits quietly, a hint of excitement laced with curiosity in her voice. "Brilliant," I reply with a smile, relieved that she's open to the idea. "We'll take it slow, at your pace. And I'll be right there beside you every step of the way." With a newfound determination, I start laying out plans in my mind, thinking of places we could visit and activities we could do together. But I'm also aware of the responsibility I carry. Elsa though physically an adult, on the inside she's still just curious, playful puppy, and to have her land in the wrong persons hands where she could be used as a slave or worse. I'm never gonna let anything like that happen.
As we sit together at the table having lunch, discussing our what I had just planed in my head. Elsa seems keen to go straight to the park rather then go around the block, I'm OK with it as long as she feels comfortable. "We'll go to the park tomorrow, if you'd like." I offer.
"Yes, I would like that." she eagerly responds.
"There are some things we need to go through first though, about safety and other people."
After we finish our discussion it was about 2:00 and we're sitting in the lounge room I'm trying to think of what to do next, I'd try teach her to read but she's far to excitable for concentrating on that yet, not to mention the only books I've got are form the 1800s or scientific publications suddenly I'm cut out of my thoughts by Elsa abruptly jumping up off the couch. "Am I still allowed in the backyard?"
"Yes, why wouldn't you be?"
"I'm not a dog any more."
"Well as long as your careful I dont see why you can't be."
"I can be a dog again?" Elsa asks with visible confusion on her face.
"No, I meant allowed to go out in the backyard."
"OK." She runs off to the back door, I hop out of my chair pre-empting "Y/N, the handle won't turn!"
"That's because the doors locked." I reply already heading towards the back door with my keys.
After Elsa had ran around in the backyard for a few hours whilst I was reading, it had started getting dark so I decided it was time I cooked some dinner I cooked a simple of ravioli because I figured that they would be an easy was to learn to use a fork.
Using a folk didnt go as well as hoped Elsa ended out just using her hands instead. Once dinner was done with it was time for bed. I wasn't fully comfortable with sleeping in a bed with Elsa but I got the feeling I wasn't gonna get much of a choice in this so I tucked her in and lay on the far side of the bed and try and get some sleep.
