Stanley's POV
"Lee! I've got an idea!"
"That's a first."
"No, I'm serious! Okay, c'mere..."
My bro-bro climbed up the ladder and whispered his plan in my ear. As he continued, my grin got wider and wider. "I'm in," I said once he was done. Ford smiled excitedly.
"Okay, but first we have to finish unpacking."[Time skip: Five hours later]
"Ready to go then?" I asked him impatiently.
"Not quite. We still have to pack for our journey."
My twin reached in the drawer, and grabbed a flashlight, and his notepad. He stuffed his notepad in his back pocket, and held the flashlight in his hand.
"Aw, can't I hold onto the flashlight, Ford?"
He sighed. "I guess so." Stanford handed me the flashlight. I pumped my fist. "Yess..."
"C'mon, we better get going!"
We stepped down the stairs quietly.
Dad was asleep on the couch. Good. That would make lying a lot easier. Stanford took out his notepad, and his pen. He started scribbling on the notepad. I leaned over his shoulder to see.
"Dear dad,
We're going into town to explore. We'll be back.
Love, Ford and Lee"
I nodded, and he ripped the paper from the book. He placed it on the table, and we slipped out the back door. A couple steps beyond the porch, there was a tall ladder heading to the beach. A few yards to the right of the ladder was the road into town. I dropped the flashlight down into the sand, and mounted the ladder. Instead of climbing down it the proper way, I grabbed the sides and slid down. When I was most the way down, I let go and landed in the sand with a thud.
"C'mon, Ford! Don't be scared!" I mocked. Stanford nervously looked at the bottom, and put his foot on the first ladder rung. He took a breath, and grabbed the sides. He slid his feet out from the rung. He started to slide down, and when he was about halfway down, he looked down, and panicked. He let go, and started falling.
"Lee! Watch out!"
I wasn't quick enough.
Stanford landed on top of me, knocking the breath out of my lungs. When I took a breath in, I started laughing. I stood up, and stuck out my hand to help Stanford up. Giggling, he took my hand, and rose. We looked at the beach, now scattered with people, with kids. A couple trying to calm their crying baby. A scrawny-looking boy putting sunscreen on. A group of tough-looking boys pushing a girl down.
"Hey!" I yelled at the boys. Stanford groaned. "Stanley, no..."
But I continued. "What's the big idea?"
"What are you doing talking to us?" The largest boy- probably the leader- sneered at me. The girl was still sniveling on the ground, her hands coated with sand from gripping the ground. Her brown hair tucked behind her ear with a small flower. Her emerald-green eyes desperate, tinged with fear, but also gratefulness.
I ignored the boy. "Why did you push her?"
The boy shrugged. "She was in my way."
One of the boys toward the back of the group snickered. "Why don't you give him something better to stand up for, Alvin?"
The boy- Alvin, apparently- smirked. "You better back off, before someone gets hurt."
I stood my ground.
"Stanley..." my brother warned.
Alvin raised his fist.
"Leave her alone." I growled.
The boys just snickered.
"I said, leave her alone!" I gave him a good punch to the face. He fell over, and I caught the sight of blood. I took a step back as his posse scattered. Alvin ran off. I stepped to the girl. "Are you okay?" I reached my hand out to help her up. She looked at it, then grabbed it. I blushed. "Yeah, I'm okay."
"Um, what's your name?"
"I'm Carla... What's yours?"
"I'm Stanley, and this is my twin Stanford."
"You have a twin? That's so cool! But what do I call you if you're both Stan..?"
"Well, we call each other Ford and Lee, but you can call us by our real names if you want..."
I blushed again, and Carla smiled. "Well, I've gotta go, but maybe we can talk again later. Tell your brother I said hi!"
I nodded silently, still blushing.
"Oh, and thanks for saving me!" She shouted as she ran off, her sundress whipping around in the wind.
"No problem," I mumbled.
"Ooh, Lee's got a cru-ush!" Stanford said once she was out of sight.
"What? No I d-don't," I said, rubbing my head, and blushing.
"CARLA AND STANLEY SITTING IN A TREE, K-I-S-S-I-N-"
I covered his mouth. "Shut up!" I hissed.
He tore my hand from his mouth. "So it's true! You love her! Love, love, love love love-"
"Hey, what's that?" I said, unamused by Stanford's teasing.
"Huh?"
When he looked away, I pushed him over, a triumphant grin on my face. He landed face-first in the sand, getting some in his mouth. Stanford stood back up, and spit the sand out.
"Aw, man."
He picked up his glasses, shattered. "Lee, you broke my glasses!" He squinted. "Dad's not going to be happy."
I guiltily looked down, not saying anything.
"Guess we have to go back. Sorry, Lee, guess we can't go."
I took my glasses off, an idea in my head.
"I think have a solution."
Stanford stared at his glasses, squinting, obviously annoyed.
"And that would be?"
I plopped my glasses on Stanford's head, receiving a "huh?" in response.
"Not bad, however your vision is now severely impaired."
"Aw, my eyes aren't as screwed up as yours, I can live without it."
Stanford smiled.
"And besides, you're the one with the notepad. You'll need to see to write."
"You look way better without glasses anyway. Gotta look nice for Carla," Stanford teased.
I rolled my eyes.
"C'mon, let's keep going."Yes, I used a bit from a comic. Don't kill me. And OMLLLL I SHIP STANLEYxCARLA SO MUCH URGH I CAN'T WAIT TO WRITE MORE ABOUT THEM
