CHAPTER ONE
Aphrodite Is Laughing Right Now

Cassia had heard the whispers and murmurs from other campers about a boy who killed a minotaur.

Personally, Cassia didn't find it that strange. They were in a camp full of demigods— how was it weird or that out of the ordinary? Yes, she was aware that the minotaur was a once in a blue moon occurrence, especially to kill one, but still. She wasn't going to admire and worship the new camper just because of it. Cassia knew Clarisse was just burning and nearly lighting up with fumes sprouting.

Cassia was sitting in the main part of the cabin, well, more in the darkest shadows, but still. Her few siblings had gone elsewhere in the camp, one had to have a talk with Chiron after a stunt he pulled.

It was dead silent, not a person in sight, which was Cassia's preference. She was perfectly content, until she heard unfamiliar footsteps.

Cassia looked up, then she slinked over to the side, making sure to hide away from the stranger.

A blond boy, around her age curiously walking inside the cabin. Cassia knew damn well he was not a child of Nyx. So, who the hell was this kid? He had a grey hoodie on and a faded cut under his eye.

Cassia furrowed her brows, watching as he walked further in the cabin. The cabin was much different compared to the others. For starters, it was a very dark wood, second, it was hard to see anything through the shadows and mist unless you were a child of Nyx. But the boy managed to find his way around enough. He did walk into a small table, making Cassia half laugh-half scoff, catching his attention.

There was no turning back. Besides, it wasn't like they'd never see each other in the future. They were in the same camp for the gods' sake.

"Who are you?" Cassia asked, still hiding.

The boy didn't answer. If it weren't for the cabin or the stories his mother had told him about, he would have sworn just by her voice that she was a child of Aphrodite. Cassia's voice was soft, but sounded a bit like it was strained.

Cassia stepped out of the shadows, clearing the mist to reveal herself. "Who the hell are you?" She asked once again, in a slightly more firm tone.

The blond boy was in a trance. He gulped. "Percy Jackson."

Percy didn't know how he got his name to come out. He blinked a few times before asking: "Who are you?" He asked her.

"Doesn't matter."

"You asked me, I told you. It's fair." He reasoned.

"You're not afraid of me, are you?" Cassia wondered.

"Afraid of you? Why would I be afraid of you?" Percy asked, genuinely confused.

Cassia furrowed her brows, still not quite meeting Percy's eyes. "I'm Cassia Tate, but some people call me Cas." She introduced.

She sighed. "I'm a daughter of Nyx."

Percy's eyes widened. "Nyx? Nyx as in the Goddess of Night?" He asked.

Cassia nodded. She finally looked up and noticed he was a bit closer. Not too close though. But enough where she could see his eye colour and the wound on his face in much more detail. Cassia looked away from Percy, not because she was uncomfortable, but because she wasn't used to someone actually wanting to stay near her besides her siblings.

"I should... um..." Percy started to say in a hushed voice.

"Yeah. Hey, what cabin are you in?" Cassia asked, regretting it instantly.

"Apparently I'm staying in the Hermes cabin, but I don't know who my father is." Percy replied, putting his hands in his pockets.

Cassia nodded in understanding. She was considered one of the 'lucky ones' for already knowing and being claimed.

Percy didn't find himself leaving the cabin, instead he was just looking at Cassia. He didn't know why, he just was.

Then, Quintin, Cassia's older brother that had a chat with Chiron came back in the cabin with a pleasant expression on his face. Then he saw Percy. He narrowed his eyes. "You're not a child of Nyx, I can tell." Quintin clenched his jaw. "Who the hell are you?" He questioned with anger in his tone.

Percy backed up a step, intimidated. "What is it with Nyx's kids and saying 'who the hell are you'? I mean really—"

Quintin picked Percy up by the collar of his shirt easily. "I am not afraid to summon a monster here." He threatened.

"Quintin, just put him down." Cassia said in a bored tone.

Quintin did, grunting and telling Percy to get the hell out. Percy looked at Cassia quickly with an expression he didn't think of, it was subconscious. Cassia looked down at the hardwood floor and crossed her arms as Percy started to walk out. When she looked up and met his eyes, it distracted him, making him walk into the wall. "I should've known there was a wall there." Percy said, trying to take away his embarrassment.

Cassia held back a laugh at it, but Percy could tell she wanted to. Percy reluctantly walked out of the cabin when he saw Quintin's death glare. From what Percy noticed, the children of Nyx were all extremely protective of one another.

Cassia continued looking out the dark door that connected the Nyx cabin to the camp. She didn't want to think about Percy Jackson. Cassia did not want to think about that curly, blond, hilarious boy that somehow managed to walk into their cabin and not be shaking in terror. One could say that Aphrodite was laughing hysterically right now at Cassia.
