Natalia was busy rolling out some cookies when she heard him.

"Fuck!"

She jumped. She knew that tone, could identify it anywhere even if she were miles away.

Sparing a glance behind her shoulder, she waited a few heartbeats -- counting in silence -- before spotting Jacob's figure storm through the household with such unrestrained emotion that the entire flooring shook under his weight.

"Jacob," Natalia turned back to her tray of unbaked cookies and let out a silent swear word of her own. She had a pretty good hunch about what had upset him so much. Nothing really riled up her wolf that much. Nothing but one person.

"Jake," she called out once more when only silence was his answer, "what's wrong?"

Another beat of silence echoed through the house and Natalia took her time rolling out the rest of the dough, almost done with the batch when the wolf finally strode into the kitchen with a scowl that would've sent anyone else running.

Not Natalia.

"What is it?" she asked, eyeing him with slight concern and curiosity, her own hands gripping onto the kitchen counter with apprehension. Everything had been going smoothly up to this point. It had been a few months ever since Natalia and Jacob's relationship had taken a new turn and to say that she was happy was an understatement.

She'd learnt a few things about the said man in question; he loathed his vegetables as much as he loathed vampires and she'd had to resort to making smoothies in order to bribe him into drinking something somewhat healthy. Two; he had a sweet tooth especially where ice cream was concerned. And three; Jacob had a hard time divulging his emotions and separating them from the actual reality of the situation, which brought about so many other mixed emotions that weren't necessarily needed and made things a little rougher than they should be. Pair that with Natalia's rough past and it was bound to result in some fireworks.

Nevertheless, the two had a few conversations about how to handle their emotions and how to walk away whenever it was deemed necessary in favor of not spouting any nonsense that first came to mind. somehow, this technique seemed to be working so far.

But today was different. Today, Natalia felt it deep down buried in her core. There was going to be a fight. And it was not going to be pretty.

Jacob circled the kitchen counter once, twice, three times, before he finally leaned against the back of the sink with a resigned sigh. His hand went up to comb through his dark strands, all the while avoiding Natalia's gaze.

"So?" she prompted.

It was then that she saw it; the crumpled up white envelope in Jacob's hand. He tossed it onto the counter and after wiping her hands off the kitchen towel, Natalia made a grab for the paper ball and unrolled it, smoothing out the paper underneath her fingers only to read:

Edward Cullen and Isabella Swan cordially invite you to celebrate their wedding.

Ah.

Jacob's anger made so much sense now. Though why he was angry, she couldn't understand.

Natalia felt a pang of envy towards the pale-skinned girl. Bella was never going to be fully out of the picture, was she? Why did she keep on circling her boyfriend like a vulture about to prey on a lone wolf?

"She's going to marry him," Jacob ground his teeth together, jaw clenched and tight, fists as hard as granite as he couldn't resist but bang them against the countertop, "she's out of her goddamn mind--"
