One evening, as the sun began to set, casting long shadows across thw hard wood flooring, Urs stood by Evie's side, ready to introduce her to Liam.
With his usual placid expression, Urs said, "Miss Wallace, I'd like you to meet Liam. He'll be taking the lead on the nightshifts. The other three guard have already taken their stations."
Evie crossed her arms and studied the large man now standing before her. It was rather evident to both men that she didn't want another bodyguard. She wasn't even trying to hide the annoyance on her face. "I thought I made it clear that I don't want any more bodyguards," she said,"I barely tolerate having one!" her voice tinged with frustration.
Urs understood Evie's reluctance and empathized with her desire for independence. However, her life was in real danger, and she wasn't taking that seriously enough. He chose his words carefully. "Miss Wallace, I understand your concerns, but please hear me out. Liam is not just a bodyguard. He is a trusted colleague who will help ensure your safety when I am not able to be by your side."
Liam, sensing Evie's hesitation, spoke up in a calm and reassuring tone. "Miss Wallace, I understand that having a bodyguard may feel intrusive, but I assure you that I am here to support you and create a safe environment. Your well-being is our top priority."
Evie uncrossed her arms and sighed, still skeptical but willing to hear them out. "Fine, but I don't want any unnecessary disruptions or intrusion into my personal space."
Urs nodded, acknowledging her concerns. "I understand, miss. Liam will maintain a professional and respectful distance while ensuring your safety. We have worked together to create a shift schedule so that each of us can have enough rest and be at our best to protect you."
With some reluctance, Evie nodded, acknowledging their reasoning. She still didn't fully understand why she needed additional protection, but she decided to give it a chance. "Alright, but don't expect me to be thrilled about it."
As the night fell and Liam assumed his position by Evie's side, she couldn't shake off her annoyance completely. Liam, sensing her unease, tried his best to make her feel more comfortable by giving her space and not intruding on her personal activities. However, Evie couldn't help but feel a sense of intrusion, as if her independence was being compromised.
During Liam's first shift, they engaged in minimal conversation, with Evie keeping most of her thoughts to herself. Liam respected her need for space and remained watchful, but Evie couldn't help but feel a lingering dissatisfaction.
As the night wore on, Evie's curiosity got the better of her. She glanced over at Liam, who was keeping a vigilant watch, and decided to strike up a conversation. "Liam, can I ask you something?" she inquired hesitantly.
Liam turned his attention towards her, his eyes focused yet gentle. If she had surprised him,he didn't show it. "Of course, miss. What would you like to know?"
Evie hesitated for a moment before asking, "What can you tell me about Urs? I mean, you two seem to have a close bond. How did you meet? Why did my ther choose him of all people? The man never talks unless I talk to him first. It's unnerving."
