"Oh my god, get up!" I shouted in a panic, still half asleep. The sun was peeking into the dorm and illuminating many green hues around the room. The sun is up. We're late. We must have missed breakfast and our first class already. "Draco, c'mon." I shook his shoulder but he only rolled over with a groan.
"We can skip today." He grumbled, audibly falling back to sleep.
"No." I told him sternly and slid out of his comfortable bed. "You've already skipped three days." It's been a month and a half since September 1st, our first day of classes. Desi, Heaven, and I are now the most inseparable trio who tells each other everything. We've met more friends, joined clubs, and overall gotten more comfortable in this massive castle. With that amount of time passing by, inevitably, love interests have entered the scene. Since the middle of September, I've been hooking up with this platinum blonde Slytherin boy.
Draco Malfoy.
"Go without me."
"Take something seriously for once." I scoff and pull my shift down over my chest. I tuck it into my pants and snatch my robe from the floor in a hurry. "I'm leaving with or without you."
"Why do you take school so seriously? You've got good grades. You'll be fine." I roll my eyes. "Come back into bed with me, Alaya." His offer was tempting but I couldn't take it up.
"I have a test today."
"Do it tomorrow." I tie my ravenclaw themed tie around my collar and head to the door.
"I'll see you later today, Draco." I bid him goodbye and disappeared into the Slytherin common room outside his door. I heard him flop around in the bed to get comfortable before the door closed behind me. Typically I'll sneak around, careful not to get noticed by anyone. Today I felt I didn't have to. Everyone should be in their classes. Then again, I don't know exactly what time it is. Much to my disadvantage, a voice piped up from a couch in front of the lit fireplace.
"What do we have here?" Theodore Nott's eyes met mine and I immediately flushed with embarrassment. "No need to be embarrassed. I'm not in class either." Jesus, what's with these Slytherin guys and their attendance problems? Or maybe it's a problem with their priorities.
"I'm just leaving."
"Clearly." He scans me up and down. "Don't forget to brush your hair."
"Shut up."
"Whoa!" He throws his hands in the air defensively. "I'm just messing with you. If you're going to be here a lot I figured we should be friends."
"You figured we should or do you want to be?"
"I want to be." He shrugged. "Darco's the homie."
"That seems fair. I'll see you around."
"Sounds good." I walk past him to the door that would lead me into the hallway and out of this Slytherin snake pit.
The ancient walls echo from the sounds of my pattering feet racing to Charms. Mr. Flitwick is bound to be disappointed that one of his Ravenclaw students seems to be dodging class. Hopefully turning up late will ease the sting somehow. When I arrive at the closed classroom door, I suck in a deep breath of oxygen. I'm out of breath from practically running here but also I must calm my nerves. All eyes are about to be on me.
I push the large wooden door. It creaks on its hinges the whole time it swings open. I face the class, who is also looking back at me. I feel the stares of 30 students burning holes all over my body. I can feel my face getting hot with embarrassment. There's no way to hide how red I am.
"Ms. McLane, kind of you to join us this morning." Mr. Flitwick states with distaste in his voice. "Have a seat."
"Yes sir." I reply back and duck my head slightly as I find my assigned seat. Thankfully, I sit in the back row of this class. As I head down the rows I catch the confused expressions on Heaven and Desi's faces.
