[ boarding school for orphans, Location: somewhere in a metropolis]

Helena / third POV ~

The air was thick with the aroma of lunchtime delicacie.

Emma, her expressive green eyes narrowing, whispered to Emma,

"Have you heard the latest rumors about Ms. Thornfield? This morning In the preschool room upstairs she shaved a little girl's head bald for crying too much "

Helena, with her determined gaze, responded, "I can't believe it!"

" yeah I heard it from Kayleepida," Emma says eating her grilled cheese sandwich.

" it's Kaylee ." the little girl sat at the table across from them.

" oh, really how many types of species of birds are there," Emma smirked knowing Kaylee was about to prove her point.

" about 10,000," Kaylee said taking a bite of her sandwich and then realizing what Emma was doing.
" hey !"  Kaylee then threw a French fries at Emma who catched it in her mouth. Kaylee sticks out her tongue towards the blonde.

Helena slightly smiled it was times like now that made her feel lucky to at least have people who want her and on top of that can relate to her situation.

Helena remembers the first time she met Emma at her first orphanage when she was 5. Emma's parents abounded her on the side of the road and never looked back...
Emma was so closed off but when we met I felt like I broke her walls she was like my sister, nope even better she is my sister in my eyes.
Helena snapped out of her thoughts when she heard them laughing.

" ms. Thornfield thinks I'm cheating she claims that there's no way a kid my age could enjoy the complicity of moby dick only a simpleton can accomplish such facile ." Kaylee laughs before Emma throws a piece of French fries at her.

" hey considering all of us aren't all Kayleepida. Try using dummy words. And besides who gives a shit about her ." Emma responded. " also you mind doing my math homework."

" only if you do mine," Kaylee responded before Emma agreed and switched papers.

Helena glared over at Emma as she did preschool math and shook her head.
" do you guys know where the headmistress keeps our files ?"

Emma and Kaylee looked at her both raising an eyebrow.

" I want to find out more about my birth parents." Helena says confidently hoping they would know something or at least break the awkwardness.

" its in her desk bottom draw to the left. Alphabetic order." Emma says as Helena wondered how Emma knew that.

Emma sighs " I went in there once when I.....wanted to find out if they did leave me on the side of the road." Emma tries not to cry.

Helena saw the look on her face and automatically knew whatever was on record was true.

" I'm so sorry Ems." Helena hugged her tightly before letting go Emma wiped her eyes.

" it's fine I don't care. It's not like I meant something to them ." Emma tries to shrug it off like it doesn't bother her.

" Helena you're not going to leave us if there's a chance you can find them," Kaylee asked softly on the verge of crying.

Helena shakes her head no. How could she possibly think about leaving her only family even if it wasn't in the traditional sense? They were her sisters and shouldn't manage a life without them in it.

" I promise I won't leave you guys," Helena says looking between the two of them.

" I'll get the files Hel ." Emma then says to Elena she smiles. " thanks, Ems."

[ later that night Helena and Emma's shared dorm ]

While Emma was out retrieving the files from the headmistress's office.
Helena was doing Kaylee's hair for tomorrow as the dress code states that all kids wear their hair straight.
Since Kaylee's hair wasn't naturally straight like the other kids in her group Helena had to make it using a flat iron.

Helena finishes Kaylee's hair before putting it into two ponytails.

Helena remembers the first time she met Kaylee.
she was very advanced for her age you would think people would be nice to her however because
The headmistress thought Kaylees hair was too curly and didn't fit into her perfect dress code rules. Which Is why I do her hair to avoid upsetting that bitch.

Kaylee turns facing Helena.
" thanks Elena ." Kaylee whispered yawning tiredly.

" don't mention just spend the night here ." Helena suggested as Kaylee froze knowing the rules about the younger and older kids sleeping together.

" ill take the fall just rest ." Helena reassured her before Kaylee nods and sleeps on Helena's bed.

Helena sat in the dimly lit room, her gaze fixed on Kaylee as she peacefully slept. The rhythmic rise and fall of Kaylee's chest brought a sense of calm to Helena's troubled mind. As she watched over her, a flood of emotions and thoughts consumed her.

In the silence of the night, Helena's mind wandered back to her own past, to the memories of her birth parents who had abandoned her. It was a painful chapter in her life, one that had left deep scars on her heart. She had spent years trying to understand why they had made such a choice, why they had chosen to leave her behind.

As she watched Kaylee sleep, Helena couldn't help but wonder if her birth parents ever thought about her. Did they regret their decision? Did they carry the weight of their actions in their hearts? These questions haunted her, and she often found herself lost in a sea of what-ifs.

But amidst the turmoil of her emotions, Helena also found solace in the present moment.

As Helena continued to watch over Kaylee, Helena's thoughts were a mix of pain, longing, and determination.

Helena found comfort in the knowledge that she was not alone.
Her thoughts were interrupted when Emma walks back into the room .

Emma: "Helena, I found something that you need to see."

Helena: "What is it, Emma? Did you get it ?"

Emma: *hands Helena the birth record* " Take a look."

Helena: *reads the document, eyes widening in disbelief* "Selena Kylie...? This can't be real."

Emma: "I know it's shocking, but the records don't lie. It seems like your birth mother is Selena Kylie."

Helena: *struggling to process the information* "But why would she abandon me? Wait who is she? "
Emma shrugs as a response.

" lets ask Kayleepida in the morning." Emma jokes laughing .

Helena: *feeling a mix of emotions* "I don't know what to think, Emma. My whole life feels like a lie."

Emma: "I'm here for you, Hel. We'll go through this together, whatever it takes."

Helena: *taking a deep breath* "Thank you, Ems. I don't know what I'd do without you."
