"Yay!" I squealed with delight. I had been enrolled in one of the best colleges in the country. Ramon turns around to congratulate me, a smile taking over her face . She is my older twin sister, but somehow, I still get confused to be the eldest. Looking over at her, "Am sure you'll also be enrolled in good college." She struggled a bit with school ,but, I would always try to encourage her.
She shrugs her shoulders ,rolling her eyes, a little discomforted" Regardless, am still going to be successful in life." Not wanting to dig deep into the conversation, I nod my head in agreement. I was a month away before the school could open. I was so excited to start college life. Highschool had been quite a rough patch. I move from our home town to rent a house in Jajamaica. The Jujukush School of Technology was located in the area. This was one busy town with a big population of students who had also rented around the neighborhood . To some level, I was nervous ,the neighborhood was spooky at first , taking walks around the area especially during dark night hours...
The darkness had yet to unveil what traversed in the life of the town."Am so proud of you Irinah, keep up with the hard work," my oldest sister, Elsa, congratulated me over the phone. She was living in a different town far from where we stayed. During the first month, I moved in with a roommate, Glory, she was a year older in the school. "Am so glad they enrolled you into our school. Lemme help you bring in the bags, you can rest." She was sweet. I was worn out from the long-distance travelling .I shoved into the bathroom, took a quick warm shower and slept for the rest of that day.
The first few months, I was already making friends." Hey, Irinah, lets grab some fries and chicken from our favourite joint." Katty pulls me by my arm as we stormed out of class. She was from my previous high school .We loved each other's company and were very vibrant in our first year of Architectural studies. We worked on projects together, ate together and would even have sleep overs.Days were moving very fast.
''Hi, am Grivv, nice seeing you around, any chance we could be friends?" One day ,we are in studio working on our everyday projects,a brown average sized boy walks over to our drawing table ,, my startled eyes meets his and I was already having a small crush on him,but I wasn't that naive to be jumping onto ships sailing to nowhere.
Grivv:Hi,am Grivv, any chance we could be friends?
I considered him good company .
Katty: (sighs and giggles) ,"Already doing this? Interesting!"
She snaps before walking away, still teasing, "See you later love birds." He was sweet talking to, especially because he seemed to be among the coolest group of boys in the class. Days go by, we go cloth shopping together, not that we actually did that,I was just tagging along to get my head to cool off from all the intensity of school work ,and ofcourse enjoying the city views , this one time he invites me and Katty to a party they had hosted with a couple other friends. We've ,however, remained just being simple friends since at that time, our attention seemed to be somewhere else."Hi, am Sivaj, this direction." A friend of Grivv who also happened to be in our class escorts us to where the party is being held. Katty is unsure of the party but is comforted by my presence around. We are offered drinks, and I meet a strange boy in the house, probably just going in the same school ,but older. We get in a game,a dare to anyone who drinks more alcohol. I was guzzling shots down my throat. "Yee haw! That's my girl!" Katty shouts with excitement as I finish, having drunk the most shots. In my drunken state, I start to notice him, Sivaj, but before I could get a chance to talk to him, Katty pulls me by my arm and we hurriedly storm out, heading back to our apartments.
Over the days, am more interested in wanting to know him better. He seemed to be quite the type to leave a girl devoured, thirsty and starving . He was very charismatic and outgoing . We meet few times in school, but he is the egoistic type that snobs. Guess everyone has just got tactics to stay mysterious and interesting. But hey, it's me "electric girl" I've got magic of my own. Good thing, me and Katty were growing popular, we were exemplary at our best behaviour and perfoming well in our projects. Boys were undeniably drooling over us.
In no time, Mr. Smoking Hot, was already falling for my charm. "Don't fall too deep, however, you might just end up crippled." Katty smirks and laughs sarcastically as we walk out of class.Sivaj is walking right infront of us. At this point, I knew he was quite the deal for me. But, I wasn't going to be too naive to allow this happen so fast. So, for the whole of the first year, I am distant and wouldn't give a single hint. I guess ,I just knew what the future held and the repercussions were always gonna be brutal, my biggest test was to stay emotionally intelligent for most of the semester ,for my own sanity. Few times, he would greet me when we met in school, but outside ,everyone was minding their own business.
We were all playing, 'hard to catch', sassy .Then, this one time, one of his closest friends happens to be my neighbour ,in one apartments and we all start talking, hanging out together ,sometimes even doing projects together. Guess we just enjoyed each other's company since we were compatible. You know the thrill. We end up 'friends with benefits' with Sivaj, but it doesn't last long , the game is no longer serving. So ,we choose to move on and focus with our lives. Life is too short to get stuck in a loop of sadness and depression. This is a story for a thousand years, best friends with benefits forever, so we agree being partners rather than enemies ,you could quote it 'Frenemies with benefits'.
Mr. Smoking Hot and The Bee queen were just about to know each other even better. All assumptions aside.
