I walked towards my daddy and gave him a kiss on the cheek. He was putting his famous dry rub on the ribs. I swear he's the best on the grill.
"Hi daddy."
He turned around, "Baby girl! How you doin' Hermel? Job been smooth?"
I wasn't trying to get into the business talk with him right now so I just nodded and smiled. My best friend walked towards us.
"Hi Papa Harley."
My dad nodded at him, "Hi son son. You been cool? Anybody fucking withchu?"
Narelly smiled at him, "I've been good and not since you taught me ta stick up for myself Pops.
My dad smiled back at him, "Good good. You ain't got no little boyfriends, right?"
Narelly frowned, "Uhhh.."
"Awl shit. Let me go get my gun."
We both stopped him knowing that he was really about to get it, "NO! He- We- It's complicated right na' but we working on it Pops."
My dad hummed, shaking us off. "Aight. Go on na' I gotta finish this food. Go get ya' grandmotha."

I walked across the park trying to find my mother.
