Arriving in Forks just as the sun went down, Alice and Adeline decided to go straight to Bella's house. Alice's vision had showed Bella jumping off the cliff while the sun was out, so either they were too late or they would have time to hopefully talk some sense into her. In either case Bella's house seemed like the best bet for finding out which was the case.
When they pulled up, the house was dark, and Alice parked the car on the street as they both inspected it. "Do you think we should knock" Adeline questioned.
Alice shook her head. "I don't hear anyone in the house. Besides we want to try and get in and out without letting anyone else know we are here. Especially if we are too late. I have no idea how we would explain ourselves to Charlie otherwise."
"Okay well, what do you suggest? Do we just sit out here until she comes back?"
"Well, we could just sneak in to have a look around. Maybe we can figure out if we are too late or not that way."
"Alice! We can't break in!" Adeline was aghast at the very idea.
"It wouldn't be breaking in per say Adie ... her bedroom window is open. I could go through there and then come down to let you in. No breaking needed." She smiled over at Adeline trying to convince her.
Adeline took a deep breath. "Fine but we only take a quick peek then leave. It feels wrong to be going into someone's house without an invitation." Alice nodded in agreement and climbed out of the car, Adeline following.
In a blink, Alice had jumped up to the open window and crawled in. A few moments later, she had the front door open for Adeline. "Come on, the coast is clear."
Adeline followed her in and they began to look around. "What are we even looking for?"
"I don't know, maybe a note or something?" Alice said. Admittedly she didn't really think this through, she just didn't want to wait in the car.
Just as Adeline was going to tell her they should go they heard the sound of Bella's truck coming up the road. Alice went to race out the door, but Adeline caught her and pulled her over to the window to peek out instead.
"Why did you stop me?" Alice whispered.
"It might not be Bella driving. How would it look if we came racing out her front door after being away for six months?"
"Good point" Alice said, thinking it through, "and good call, it looks like there are two people in the car."
"Can you tell if one of them is Bella?"
"Not from here."
"Then I guess we will just have to wait till she comes in and hope the other person does not come with her." Adeline suggested, really regretting not waiting in the car now.
A few minutes later, they heard running feet on the doorstep and Bella flung the door open. Turning on the light, she turned around to see Alice and Adeline standing there. Both were shocked to see her soaking wet, meaning that they were indeed too late, but not understanding how she was alive.
Before either could say anything though, Bella threw her arms around Alice calling out her name.
"Bella! What are you ..." She trailed off, trying to figure out how to ask how she was alive.
Bella cut her off, "I'm sorry. I just ... I can't believe you're here. Is ..."
"Would you like to explain to us how you're alive?!" Alice shouted.
"What" Bella said, a confused look on her face.
Now that the fear of being too late had worn off, Alice just wanted to shake some sense into this girl. "I saw a vision of you. You jumped off a cliff. Why in the hell would you try and kill yourself?! I mean what about Charlie?! What about -"
