DIAMOND SHORES

To the west of MagicLand, not far from the town of OwlCity, there is a long and beautifully shimmering stretch of beach, its glistening cliffs battered mercilessly by the waves. The water is inaccessible because of the high rock walls, but from the seaside, the high cliffs hiding sparkling diamonds are a breathtaking sight. This stretch of coastline may have remained so intact because it was uninhabited and dangerous to go near.

Anyone who tried to climb to the top of the diamond walls was savagely snatched up by the huge black ghouls, who delighted in tearing their victims apart and happily feasting on the bloody carcasses as they sat on the rocks. At the southernmost tip of the coast stood a small town with a very small population. FloodWing was not one of the important and popular towns. There was poverty, starvation... and rain fell from the sky almost every day of the year. The stories say that in the old days, the sun shone much more in the region and the water was not yet cruel and cold at all times of the year.

Since the reign of the Dark Lord, something has changed. The sea has turned from sky blue to dark green and anyone who ventured into it was bitten off. As a result, what used to be known as the fishing village of FloodWing lost its biggest source of income and conditions grew worse. Many tried to sail away in search of new opportunities and new lands but were swallowed up by the cruel waves of the sea.

This dawn also dawned almost freezing. The rain fell steadily from the sky, in thick drops, dotting the cobbled streets of the city with puddles. A girl glanced out of the window, then adjusted her cloak and turned back towards the room. The man she’d spent the night with was still sound asleep, his red tassels scattered and disheveled on the pillow. The long brown-haired girl glanced at her lover once more, then a small smile appeared on her face. She soon came to her senses and knew that her emotions were out of control. As before, she must be sensible now. She could live her life with his livelihood, but not with love and emotions.

She took a step towards the door, quietly, almost sneaking. Not a peep could be heard. It was not difficult to move silently, for it was her bread and butter. She was a thief. She was one of the best, but of course, sometimes thieves need a break. She paused for a moment at the door of the house, adjusted the hood on her head, and looked around the deserted dark streets, but there was not a single soul but herself. The purple eyes almost glowed under the hood that covered her head. She never knew why, but she saw even more clearly at night than in daylight.

It was one of his great advantages over others in night raids. With her head down, she strode home with quick steps and as she walked the water receded from under her feet. The puddle suddenly opened up before her, and the raindrops did not touch her body. She had discovered at an early age that she had a hidden connection with water, but of course, it took her some time to understand how this ability worked. She was also aware that if anyone found out about the tricks she could do, they would immediately accuse her of witchcraft, and she didn’t need that. She lived her life quietly and relatively happily in this dusty place. She reached a corner and suddenly leaped up the wall, then grabbed hold of a brick and pushed her body up. She didn’t falter for a moment, it was obvious that she had made the same journey countless times before. Clinging to the railing, she pushed herself up onto a ledge and looked back behind her back.

„That was another 10-pointer.” she shrugged, satisfied.

„Where have you been wandering off to again, little sister?” The harsh and accusing voice came from the patio door. The girl turned to him, frowned, then smiled and walked closer to her brother, patting his shoulder.

„Believe me you don’t want to know what I’ve been doing for the last few hours” She walked past him and threw her cloak down on the chair, then threw herself down on the sponge on the floor.
