"What is it, mom," Gru asked nervously. His mother wasn't looking him in the eyes, "We can't stay at home for a while now. A workplace incident occurred, and I can't afford to be held responsible for someone else's mistake. If anyone asks, we are on a family vacation, okay?"

"Mom, what is "workplace incident" supposed to mean," Gru asked with worry in his voice. She quickly replied, "don't worry about it, okay?" His mother walked into the bathroom and locked the door. Gru was left in the room. He took this opportunity to walk into the hallway and call Shrek.

"Hey, Shrek, I need to tell you what just happened. So, my mom woke me up at like 4 in the morning, rushed me out to the car, packed all of our stuff, and drove to a hotel like an hour away. It's so musty in here, and it looks rotted. Oh, and that's not even the worse part! My mom didn't say anything the entire hour long car ride! I don't even know what's going on, all my mom told me was that a "workplace incident" occurred, whatever that is supposed to mean."

Shrek was silent for a moment, before responding. "Okay, woah, that's actually terrifying. I'm also in a run down hotel. My mom is on a business trip here, and she wanted me to come with her. I wonder if we're in the same hotel or something."

"That would honestly be great right now. I'm in the hallway of the second floor, you should come get me."

Shrek laughed, "alright, sure. I'll hopefully see you soon." And with that, he hung up.

—-----------------------------

After about 8 minutes, Gru saw his best friend approaching. "Thank god you're here! I really don't want to stay with my mom, " Gru sighed.

Shrek laughed to himself, and led Gru to his room.

Once they reached Shrek's room on the 4th floor, Gru felt himself start to relax. This whole situation was incredibly weird. What was his mother hiding? What did she mean by "workplace incident"?

Shrek's room was much better than Gru's room. The space was cleaner, larger, and felt more comfortable. The staining was minimal, and the carpets were obviously new. Gru wondered how much this room costed.

Gru finally recognized how tired he really was. Shrek was watching a movie and napping, so Gru decided to do the same on the spare bed.

—-----------------------------

At around 2:43 PM, Gru finally woke up for the day. Shrek had been awake a little longer, but chose to let Gru get his beauty sleep.

Feeling incredibly hungry, Shrek mentioned, "I found out that the hotel has its own complimentary cafe. I think that we should go check it out, since I'm sure you're hungry."

"Sure, that sounds completely safe here. Y'know, if I wanted food poisoning, I'd eat something raw," Gru snapped.

Shrek sighed, "sure, the food might not be that good, but there's literally nothing to do here. I just want to explore or something."

Gru felt bad for snapping, "alright, exploring does sound kind of fun. I'm in."

And with that, the two friends got dressed and ready.

—-------------------------------

The cafe wasn't incredibly hard to find, and it didn't look half as bad as the rest of the hotel. Gru thought for a moment that the menu items actually seemed appetizing.

Suddenly, a mysterious man walked up to the pair of friends. "Hello, I was wondering if you two lovely people happened to know where the pool is," he asked politely.

Shrek simply shook his head in response. Gru couldn't stop himself from gazing at this man. In Gru's opinion, this was the most attractive man he had ever laid eyes on.

The mystery man had greenish-grey eyes, which complimented his fair skin. His hair was a chestnut brown, and styled very classy. He was dressed in a navy colored suit that fit snugly around his body.

"Pardon me, but your eyes are beautiful, " he smiled. "How rude of me, my name is John F. Kennedy."

"I- my name is Gru!" John chuckled, "it's truly a pleasure to meet you, Gru."

Shrek stood there uncomfortably, unsure of what to do. That was when he noticed another person staring at them from across the room.

—-------------------------

The mystery lady walked up. She was bald and had a pair of gold earrings.

"John, what do you think you're doing? Are you seriously talking to other girls?"

John rolled his eyes, "it's not like that, babe, I swear. I was only asking for directions."

She clearly didn't believe it, but she ignored it and turned to the two strangers. "Why the fuck are you two still here?"

JFK quickly remarked, "don't drag them into this! You just walked up, what time did they have to walk away?"

After what seemed like 5 minutes of pointless bickering between the couple, John's girlfriend marched off. Shrek and Gru had since ordered their food. John walked up to Gru, smiled softly, slipped something into his hand, and strode after his now crying lover.

Gru looked down at his right hand, which was holding a piece of paper. Gru inspected it for a second, before making a realization. John had given him his phone number. Gru felt himself begin to blush.

Shrek, who had read the note over Gru's shoulder, smirked. "Looks like somebody has a crush," he teased. Gru turned around, mortified, "I don't have a crush! We're just friends! Plus, he already has a girlfriend."

"Oh please! Do you think I'm stupid? I saw the way you were looking at him, not to mention you were literally turning red. At first, I thought you were choking or something! The way you stuttered also didn't help your case!"

Gru buried his face in his hands. "Can we please go back to our room now? We can talk about this later," Gru asked, visibly embarrassed.

Shrek laughed to himself, and walked over to the elevator.

A/N: I'm actually so sorry if the grammar or punctuation is off in this chapter. I normally spend two days editing my stories, but I procrastinated writing the rest of this chapter for so long that I didn't have that much time. I'm so tired, and hope this is legible. I also hope you enjoy this :))
