Chapter 2

I open my eyes... all I can see is darkness. I don't remember what happened last night, but I know I didn't make it home.

I'm in an unfamiliar room...I turn to my left only to find an unfamiliar man lying in bed next to me. "Fuck."

The sun begins to peak through the curtains; I see clothes scattered everywhere.

I lift myself out of bed, and scan the floor for my clothes. As i'm pulling on my pants, I feel someone watching me. I turn around, the stranger is staring at me.

"Going somewhere?" he says.

"Um, yeah... home. How did I get here? Do I know you?" I collect all my things and wait for an answer.

"Found you on your corner. You said you were 50 percent off." He said with a slight smile, holding out $5.

I grab the money, turn, straighten up, and as i'm walking out the door I murmur "Pleasure doing business with you."

I walk out the front door, blinded by the sun, look both ways, and light a cigarette. I'm about 5 blocks from home. I slip on my heart-shaped sunglasses, shoes in hand, and start walking.

I walk in the front door of apartment 8B. The sight of the run-down complex depresses me.

"Where the hell you been?"

Andy is sitting on the couch, beer in hand, another woman seated beside him, staring at me.

"Out." I reply, stepping over empty bottles and old pizza boxes. I open the door to my room and collapse onto my bed. The apartment was still full of smoke. I had to get out of here.
