Senator Lucas Williams gave his speech to a crowd of reporters from different TV networks about his campaign, and what he had plans to do once he was elected. Natalie and the others on Senator Lucas's team watched from behind the scenes. Senator Lucas had finished his speech and waited for questions. "It seems like you are very confident Senator that you would be our next president. But did you know that you are down in the polls?" the reporter asked, Natalie was shocked by the question. She heard cussing from beside her which was coming from her boss; Stiles Monroe. Of course, Lucas answered with charisma and a smile that would put anyone at ease. "There is more than enough time for our people to get out and vote," he said. Soon more questions started to be asked but it was more about his policies. "Natalie," her boss said so sternly from beside her that it made her jump. "Yes, Mr. Monroe?" Natalie asked, "Check our social media" Natalie nodded quickly, pulling out her phone. She went to X where she unfortunately found many tweets about Lucas and they were not good. Many wondered if there was something wrong with him, why didn't he have a wife/girlfriend/fiancée? Was he gay? The people didn't trust Lucas because he wasn't married. Natalie showed the phone to him, he snatched the phone out of her hand to scroll through. "Dammit, they had him because he's not married..." "single" Natalie corrected. Stiles threw the phone back at Natalie, "text everyone to meet in 20" he said. Natalie did as he asked.
Lucas walked off stage and was greeted by Stiles and his assistant. "You did amazing out there" Stiles said, Stiles told his assistant to get him a bottle of water. She did as he asked and handed the bottle to him. Lucas accepted with a nod of thanks. She quickly took her place behind Stiles. "The speech was good but not good enough," Lucas said as they headed to the back room. "Sir, we can definitely turn this around," Stiles said reassuringly. "So why do people hate me?" Lucas asked, "it's not that they hate you... they are upset that you are single" Stiles' assistant said but quickly covered her mouth. Lucas chuckled "they hate me cause I am single? We have had presidents that have cheated on their wives... and they're worried about me being single?" Lucas asked, "of course what they are saying isn't true" Stiles said. Lucas should have known this would be a problem but he didn't think it would cost him the election. "Look, we will take care of it" Stiles said. "That's your job," Lucas said.
Later on at the meeting they began discussing what they could do to turn this election around. Stiles sent Natalie to get the members coffee, but really he didn't want her to hear what was being planned. "The problem is that he doesn't have a wife. Why don't we fix that" Stiles asked, the group looked at him with questions. "What do you suggest we do then?" one member asked, "We have to find some woman to play the part" Stiles said. "Is this a good idea?" "Of course it is, and honestly we don't have much of a choice. I just need to find the right person for the job" Stiles said. He needed to find someone who knew how important this election meant. He also needed to find a woman who wouldn't cause so much trouble.
Natalie walked into the office with a cup of coffee for Stiles. Her thoughts went to Lucas, she hated that one small issue was costing him the election. His ideas and campaign were foolproof. She knew he genuinely cared about the American people.
With eyes wide open he saw the answer right in front of him filling his mug with coffee. He stood up and slammed his hands on the desk "I got it!" Everyone jumped in surprise at his exclamation. "Natalie," he said, pointing at her. Natalie looked like a doe in headlights, the others followed who he was pointing at. "What about me?" Natalie asked, "you will play the part" he said.
Natalie was so confused at what Stiles was talking about. "We're using your assistant?" Tera asked in shock. "Wait for what?" Natalie asked "it's foolproof! She will not cause us problems, she knows how important this election is so that means she will do everything possible to make this a success. "You're confusing me? What am I doing?" Lucas asked, "you will be Luke's partner," Stiles said. "Partner?" "Stiles, are you sure this is a good idea? She has been behind the scenes..." "that's exactly why she would be perfect for the job!" Stiles exclaimed. "Natalie you will play Luke's girlfriend/fiancee/ wife" he told her. Natalie stared in disbelief, this would mean she would have to get up close and personal with Lucas. "Is there another option?" Natalie asked, "not really. You don't have a choice" he said. Did Lucas know about this arrangement? Would he be up to this? "You two are both young and would make a beautiful couple, you could be more popular than prince Harry and Meghan" Stiles said. At this point Natalie knew she couldn't talk him out of this crazy idea but why was part of her excited to get close and personal with Lucas.
