Chap 1

Sarah sat in her room listening to… nothing. Wait! Was that silence she could hear?

In a house of five irritating younger siblings and, two extremely loud parents?

This was the last thing she could ever expect on a Saturday morning. It was strange but, quite a relaxing to hear nothing more but the clock ticking. However, her happy mood suddenly left just like a flash bulb, knowing it won’t last very long. Going down the narrow stairs quietly, her curiosity gotten the better of this situation as, she strode off.

The scent of freshly made pancakes wafted up to her nostril, like the strong odour of her favourite scent Lavender. Now she definitely knew something was wrong.

Never has this family ever cooked anything more but beans on toast and omelettes. The only time pancakes were ever engulfed in this greedy family was on their Birthdays.

This was strictly reserved for special occasions only.

Sarah stopped, turned and ran back upstairs to her room. Probably broken the door it self, she whisk the calendar to her face and her eyes grew wider.

“It’s my birthday!” She exclaimed.

How stupid of me to not realise this?! She says, hands on her forehead.

She couldn’t believe it. “Could I have been that distracted, to have forgotten my own Birthday?”

What could have been so lethal that I’d forget something as important as this? Sarah thought. How could I have been so busy?

She slowly descended the stairs, faint voices trickled towards her. Soft shuffles and hushed whispers added to her growing excitement. They’re throwing me a party, she thought.

“Where should we put this?” Sarah’s sister asked.

Reaching out with her right hand, she slowly turned the door knob, meanwhile, planting the best surprised face around. Her body trembled as she stepped over the door; to be greeted by her friends and family.

“SURPRISE!” They all yelled at once.

“Happy eighteenth birthday to you, Sarah!”

The roaring sound of young children’s all tackled this poor Birthday girl on the floor, nearly knocked over with each hug.

The room was illuminated with balloons and little pieces of origami art which wrote Happy Birthday, in bold words.

Walking to the heart of this little festival, she saw the big red velvet cake behind the brown leather sofa; with fancy letters written with her name -Sarah Lane Ivan- in Italic writing.

Her mother interrupted the young girls thought as she was about to complain for this over size cake lying around.

“Sweet heart, we have a surprise for you. Look outside.”

Sarah did not have to be told twice. Knowing her parents for so long, it’s rare they gave you anything extreme till your Birthday every year.

As she rushed outside, passing her friends and so forth, she could hardly control her excitement any further. There it was the best present ever, a white BMW, with a pink over size bow sat on top. And it was all hers, every little drop of it.

Her heart beat franticly, and she screamed like her mother would on labour. These aching squeal shakes the neighbour’s ears and so did it to her parents.

“Thank you! Thank you! It’s perfect! I love you so much. Thank you! I don’t know what to say… this is the best Birthday gift ever.”

Sarah hurriedly went back inside to cut her cake, and sing happy Birthday with her friends.
