You let out a sigh as you find a small cabin in the woods. Your legs are aching from your travels, and you should probably stop to clean off your almost dull machete. The apocalypse hasn't treated you very kindly, although you are definitely alot more fit than before it started. You wipe the dirt and grime from your face, your stained coat probably only spreading it around rather than wiping it off.

You slowly enter the cabin, machete raised as you expect the worst. You're pleasantly surprised when you find nothing other than a bed, some cabinets and a large oak table in the center of the room. It's getting quite late, so you decide you can rest your head here for the time being. As you take your handheld lantern from your belt, you shine it around the room to make sure you didn't miss anything. Something metallic flashes for a moment, drawing your attention to the table. A book with a latch, you grab it and take it over to the bed. A little late night reading couldn't hurt.

You set your lantern down as you fiddle with the latch for a moment, the metal chilling your fingers as you finally get it undone. You open up the first page and read, it seems to be some kind of diary based on the writing.

'Okay, so, I found this book inside of one of the houses I broke into. I remember before all this started, everyone always told me I should keep a diary, well, now I am. Maybe it'll help keep me sane, who knows? Anyways, a little about me, my name is Sonny. I just go by Sun though, that's alot cooler. I'm 16 years old, I'm a dude, I used to want to be an Engineer but I doubt that's happening anytime soon. I wonder if the University is even still there? I'll write later, I'm getting bored.'

Your eyes travel down the page, for the next entry you notice a date, 'September 15th, 2043'. You continue to read on.

'I just realized I should be dating these. Oh well, I can't be asked to go back and date the first one, it was yesterday if you're nosy and want to know. I don't know why I'm writing "your" as if anybody is even gonna find this if I die. It does kind of make me feel better though, I guess. Anyways, I was making my daily run through houses and I found a pretty sweet looking gun. I can't use it without attracting every zombie in town but still, pretty cool to have. Alright, check in sometime later.'

You smile to yourself a bit at the irony, before quickly losing it thinking about how why he might have put the diary in here. This could still be his cabin and he's just out. What would you do then? Probably explain everything, you reasoned to yourself, no point in worrying about it at the moment. Your eyes darted to the next page.

'October 8th, 2043'
'Alright, I might have forgotten about this thing for a while but listen, you've probably lost track of stuff during this whole thing too, yeah? ANYWAYS! I met this girl while I was looting some apartments, she was trapped in one and I totally saved her from a couple zombies. She was terrified, and I saved her! She's gotta be totally into me now right? Man, I'm glad I have a diary to write all this corny shit in, otherwise it might slip out in a conversation. Her name is May, and she's 16 too. She said she would travel with me for a while, at least until she found her brother. Just between you and me, her brother is definitely dead. She said he left on the day of the outbreak, no way anybody could have survived out there, it was absolute chaos. Let's just hope she doesn't try to sneak a peak at this, I don't wanna crush her dreams or anything. Then she totally won't be into me. Later.'

You think about how lucky Sun was. You had barely seen anybody out in the apocalypse, granted you had mostly sticked to the shadows like any sane person would do. The few people you had met were nice, although they all seemed to have somewhere to be. Anyways, you wanted to continue reading rather than reminiscing.

'October 15th, 2043'
'7 days! 7 days was all it took for her to ask to be my girlfriend. That's gotta be like a record or something, right? Granted, I'm sort of her only option right now but still, score! I don't think it's just because she's the only girl I've seen in a while that I like her, she's genuinely a fun person to be around. I almost forget we're in an apocalypse around her, almost. Still, just sitting in empty apartments and talking is my favorite part of the day. I stare at her crooked nose for alot longer than I'd like to admit. I think she's embarrassed about it, but I don't know why. This is starting to get weird, so I'm probably going to stop writing. Don't think I'm a weirdo, because I'm not. Later.'
