Clay didn't think he was the right dragon for a Big Heroic Destiny.
He really wanted to. He really wanted to be the Great MudWing of the Dragonet Prophecy. He wanted to do all the wonderful things expected of him. He wanted to look at the world, figure out what was wrong with it, and fix it.
But he wasn't a natural-hatched hero. He was a natural hatched killer. He had attacked his friends while they were in their eggs, and had the adults not been watching over them, he might have killed them. On top of that, he had no legendary qualities at all. He wasn't a good leader, he hated studying, and he couldn't do anything the minders expected of him.
He was quite good at fighting. He was the biggest and strongest of the hatching, and he was already larger and stronger than two of his three minders. He was decent at hunting, and he was able to pick up prey-scent where the others could not. But he wasn't the best fighter or the best hunter like the minders all wanted him to be. To them, he was just another burly, overgrown, stupid MudWing.
"Fight!" his attacker howled, trying to fling him across the cavern. Clay extended his wings before he could hit a wall, landing on the wall and pushing off with his powerful legs, then landing in battle formation. But before he could realize what he had done, red talons were raking at his face. He dodged to the side, and body slammed his attacker as she tried to turn on him. His impressive strength managed to make her stumble. Clay didn't want to take the offensive, but he knew that if he didn't it would lead to his injury.
Clay launched himself at his combat trainer, talons first. Still off guard, Kestrel was easily knocked down. Clay landed on top of her, but he just pinned her down instead of trying to claw at her. Kestrel growled in annoyance and twisted out of his grip. She jumped up, smoke coming out of her nose, and Clay heard the hiss that meant fire was about to be breathed on him. But he had the stronger lungs of the pair. His fire burst from his lungs into her mouth. She reeled back, surprised and coughing, and Clay darted up to her, body slamming her into a wall. "Yield" Clay growled, trying to sound menacing, but not succeeding. Kestrel glared balefully down at him and her tail lashed out from behind her, grabbing Clay's throat.
She's really annoyed, Clay thought. Kestrel only tried to choke Clay out when she was annoyed, a strategy that would work on the other minders and Clay's friends, but not on Clay, since he was much too strong for that.
Then he felt the full force of Kestrel's flames hit him directly in the face.
"AAAUGH!!!" Clay screamed, backing off of Kestrel and trying to beat the fire out. Everything was orange, he couldn't see! He tried to get to the river, but he didn't know where to go! Kestrel jumped on him, pummeling his head. Clay tried to shake her off, fear and a bit of rage giving him the strength to fling Kestrel to the opposite side of the cavern. As the flames began to subside, Clay could only imagine how much third-and-second degree burns were covering his face right now. Clay could see again, and he saw Kestrel unsteadily get up, obviously in pain, but snarling, when suddenly a flash of blue appeared and Kestrel yelped in surprise. Behind her, a pretty ocean-blue Dragonet was holding Kestrel's tail, gripping it tightly and painfully
"Don't hurt Clay", Tsunami said angrily. Kestrel snarled, then turned towards her. "Aren't you sweet, Tsunami. Protecting a dragon that tried to kill you in your egg?"
"But luckily you older dragons were there to save us, so now we could hear about it every single day for six years" Tsunami rolled her eyes.
"Clay, thank the moons that I'm not killing you right now, because they know I want to" Kestrel growled over her shoulder at Clay.
"Hey, thank-" Clay started
"Jump in the river" Tsunami said, not looking at him.
"Bu-" Clay tried.
"Jump in the river or I'll push you in" Tsunami said, watching the doorway.
"Tsuna-" Clay tried once more
"Clay, you know your face is still on fire, right?" Tsunami finally turned to look at him.
"Oh". So that's what the tingling feeling on my face is. Then, "Wait WHAT?!?" Before Tsunami could respond, Clay had launched himself across the cavern in three bounds, then dove in the river. Clay immediately felt more relaxed as his scales cooled off, staying underwater for 10 minutes, watching Tsunami swim in circles around him. As Clay finally got out of the river, the first thing out of Tsunami's mouth was "We need to escape".

So, whatcha think? This is my first WoF Fanfic. I am still not sure what ship I'll use, so if you guys have any suggestions, vote below. Personally, I don't like Cleril (Clay x Peril), because Peril is too obsessive over Clay. I do like Peril as a character and she's definitely gonna have an important part. If nobody votes, I will do the first option. I will possibly write another Fanfic with the next most voted for option. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE VOTE.
The options are:
Clay x Sunny (Clunny)
Clay x Glory (Glay)
Clay x Tsunami (Claymami)
