wednesday afternoon

Harry trudges reluctantly up the path to his new house, airpods in ears and arms folded across his chest. His wristwatch shows 4:27, still hours and hours left of the day to suffer through. He tries to open the door, only to find it locked so he knocks loudly. About a minute passes and Harry becomes enveloped in a world of his music, (NF) until the door swings open revealing a broad shouldered man who looks like he would be better suited working in a jail than a children's home.

"Hello, Harry?" The guy is bald, but Harry can't tell if it's by choice or not. He nods at the guy who then holds the door open, and Harry steps inside. He wanders down the hall to his bedroom, passing Eleanor who is standing teetering on the edge of a chair in the kitchen, leaning over the counter to reach something. He thinks about helping, but then remembers what she was like yesterday to him, and decides she can work it out herself.

He turns the handle to his bedroom, but it's locked. What's with all the locks in this place? He groans out loud and turns around only to find himself face to face, chest to chest with Louis. "Hello curly" Harry feels heat rushing to his cheeks and steps backwards, only for Louis to step closer again. "You okay?" he whispers. Harry nods and steps back again. "Doors locked." he mumbles.

Louis grins and collapses down onto a dining chair, legs propped up on the chair next to him. "SOFIA!" he yells at the top of his lungs, startling Harry. Louis giggles, and a gorgeous dark haired young woman enters.

"You're as bad as Niall with your yelling Louis. Next thing we know, you'll be yelling about how you like ducks as well." Louis rolls his eyes good naturedly, then nods his head towards Harry. "This sweetie needs his door unlocked."

"Oh hi! You must be Harry, I'm Sofia. I'll be your social worker. Every child has one, it's so good to meet you! How are you? Are you settling in okay? I hope Louis isn't bothering you too much. Oh sorry, let me unlock your door." This whole mini speech is spoken in about ten seconds, at seemingly the speed of light (Harry has never spoken fast in his life, he's not one for speed).

Louis laughs out loud. "You're lucky to have Sofia. She's a gem." Sofia fiddles with the lock and Harry's door swings open. He throws his school bag into the room, then turns back around. "I'm good thank you, it's nice to meet you to." He directs this at Sofia, then glances over at Louis, making eye contact. Gorgeous eye contact. Louis' eyes... he could stare into them all day. "Take a picture curly, it'll last longer."

Sofia rolls her eyes and shakes her head. "Such a charmer, aren't you Louis?" He grins. "You know it." "Right, well get changed and do whatever you need to do, then come into the office okay Harry? I'll run through all the necessary paperwork with you." Harry nods and she exits, leaving Harry and Louis alone.

"Had a good day then cutie?" Louis pats the chair next to him, indicating for Harry to walk over and sit which he does gingerly. Harry nods. "Yeah, did you?" The smaller boy shrugs. "Was alright. Breakfast was the highlight, got to meet a real gorgeous boy." He winks and Harry looks down, face slightly hot. Weird. "Oh yeah. Niall is pretty cute isn't he?" Harry quips and Louis laughs. "Sure. Not who I meant, but sure." Harry's cheeks heat up and he stands up.

"Right, well I'm going to get changed.' He nods to himself then walks off towards the bathroom. "Uh, curly? Your room is the other way." Harry blushes, embarrassing and walks swiftly into his room, shutting the door as he hears Louis' laughter echo around the dining room.

Harry pulls off his uncomfortably itchy school uniform, instead donning a black tshirt and his black skinny jeans. His hair falls into his eyes as he fiddles with his shoelaces, so he grabs a bandana and ties it around his head.

As he exits his room, he sees Louis still sitting in the dining room, scrolling on his phone

As he exits his room, he sees Louis still sitting in the dining room, scrolling on his phone. The smaller boy looks up and whistles lowly. "Damn curly." Why does he keep calling me curly? "Do you even remember my name?" Louis stares at him, offended. "Of course I do, Harry Styles."

Harry fidgets with the hem of his shirt and tries desperately not to let a smile creep onto his face. "Oh."

Louis grins again. "Genuinely though Harry, you look gorgeous. I love the bandana..." he reaches out and strokes Harry's hair softly. "Curly." This time Harry can't stop the smile from spreading across his face, and he can't stop the pinkness from covering his cheeks.

"HARRY?" Sofia's warm voice echoes through the house, and quick as a flash Louis retracts his hand from Harry's hair and steps back. "You should really go do that paperwork. I'll see you later." With that, Louis turns around and disappears round a corner, presumably off to his bedroom. Oh.

Harry wanders down the hall to the office he was shown the previous day, passing a chattering pair of girls he hadn't seen before. Their stares linger on him just a little too long, and he puts his head down as he enters the office. Sofia greets him with a smile, and they proceed to spend about twenty minutes going through rules and paperwork. Boring things, like "no entering each other's bedrooms" and "stay in this wing at night."

Harry is just starting to count the panels in the wall for the third time when the door swings open and Niall grins at him from the doorway. "Ello Harry!" Harry grins back, then looks at Sofia. "Are we done?" She nods and Harry stands up, Niall pulling him into a soul-crushing hug. "How you been mate? Day went alright?" Harry nods and they walk out into the hallway.

"Saw this girl I like at school today," Niall comments as he fiddles with the wrapper of a chocolate bar. "Real cute. Do you think you'd ever date a girl next?" Harry laughs and shakes his head. "Hell no. I'm a boys boy." Niall grins. "What's ya type then?" Harry shrugs. "Um, brunettes I guess. No offence..." "None taken." "Someone shorter than me. I think I'd like to feel tall. Oh, and blue eyes are gorgeous..." Harry trails off as he realises he is describing a certain somebody.

Niall laughs knowingly. "Sounds like someone we both know..." Harry blushes profusely. "Um, no I don't think so. He's probably straight anyway." Niall doesn't say anything, just shrugs and begins to walk down the hall. A couple seconds later he turns around again. "There's plenty of fish in the sea Harry, don't get too caught up on one."

Harry sighs and trudges to his bedroom. Of course Louis is straight. No surprises there. He's probably just been messing with him.  He flops onto his bed in defeat. Not that he likes Louis anyway. Just a coincidence...
