The auditorium was filled with the sound of volleyballs hitting the court floor. Many teams had gathered to practice for the games that would take place later in the day.
Amidst the noise, the doors to the auditorium burst open and with it, the last team walked in. Most of Fukurōdani's team turned to look at them for a moment, but one of the members' gaze lingered on a specific setter.
They met back in elementary school, when they were both 10. It had been during a field trip to the nearby town when they first talked to each other. They both got lost while walking around the city with their classmates. They had to stick by each other in order to find their way back. After that, a beautiful friendship blossomed. They sat next to each other in class, walked home together, and practiced their favorite sport together until they could join an official team.
Unfortunately, as they reached high school, they had to go their separate ways, one of them leaving town and the other staying behind. Since then, their friendship became strained as they lost all form of contact with each other.
But there he was, just a few meters away from him, Koshi Sugawara. That light gray headed boy he didn't realize he had missed so much.
He was pulled out of his trance when he felt a ball hit the nape of his neck.
"Hey! What're you looking at? Focus."
He looked back, to see his brother staring at him.
"Sorry."
"Don't let it happen again." Keiji said.
Kento gave one last small glance at Suga, who was happily talking with a tall brown-haired boy. He then got back to practicing sparing a few glances here and there.
When the first practice match began, Kento was left on the bench, normally he would've been mad about being left out, but now he could properly observe Suga, without the risk of being hit in the head by a ball. Right now, he is playing, by what Kento could observe, he was still a setter, a damn good one at that.
"Akaashi! Go refill the waters" the coach said with a stern voice.
"Yes, sir."
He took the bottles and walked away, passing by where Karasuno was playing.
While filling the bottles, an orange haired boy approached him with a dark haired boy following behind.
"Um, excuse me, do you know where the auditorium is..?" the smaller boy asked.
"Yeah, I was going that way, you want me to take you there?"
The boys face lit up. "Really?! Thank you!"
He quickly filled the remaining bottles.
"My name is Hinata Shoyo, and this is Kageyama Tobio." He pointed to the boy behind him. "Do you play volleyball too?"
He stood up. "Yeah, my name is Akaashi Kento. I play in Fukurodani's team."
"We're from Karasuno's team!"
They started walking towards the auditorium. And when they entered, everyone turned to look at them, a sudden silence filling the auditorium.
"Here we are, I have to go back to my team now. See you around."
"Bye!" Hinata shouted as he walked away.
As Kento walked back to his team, he noticed a pair of hazel-brown eyes staring at him. He quickly glanced towards the general direction of where Suga was standing. Their eyes met for a couple of seconds before Kento broke eye contact and sped off towards his team.
