It was a snowy day, many have been like this in the last period. It's New York after all, the city known for its cold weather.
Beatrice was walking in a busy street, it was already 10 am: time to work!  She thought.

As she walked, she whistled and sipped her coffee. It was actually late for many but, after a long night at the restaurant, it was like early morning for her. The night before was exhausting; she left her second job only at 3 and now she was going to the cafe for her shift.
She didn't mind this frenetic life of hers (the reality was that she had to work 2 jobs to pay for college and to live), she liked that she always had something to do.

When she finally arrived at the cafe her coworker, Miriam, was already waiting for her.
She was the same age as Bea but a lot smaller. Her hips were big and her skin a beautiful dark olive tone. She was a beautiful young woman and Beatrice cared for her a lot. She was the first person who really connected with her when she moved from Italy.

"You decided to take your time this morning? I've been waiting for you! You know I can't stand Jim and his bullshit." She rolled her eyes at the thought of our manager and came to greet Bea. She was always like this, with her big mouth and a crude vocabulary but Bea didn't mind because they were really similar.

"I know babe but you know how tired I'm in the morning, I can't ever get out of bed."

They hugged each other and then they started to work at the counter. It was already busy and she couldn't make the customers wait. As much as she loved her job the clientele they had was real shit, some of them were high class businessmen. They really treated them so badly that they yelled at them for every reason. Olga and Luis, the elderly couple who owned the place, couldn't do much about it.

As she started to put on her apron a young guy came up to her asking for some coffee.

"How much do I have to wait for a fucking cup, Christ my boss will kill me if I don't have this coffee ready at his desk asap." He said with an angry tone.

Miriam glared at him and then at Beatrice "Can you do this one please? I'm already pissed and I will probably cause a scene." Bea smiled softly before nodding her head and started to walk in the direction of the man. "Sir, how can I help you today?" She said with her best fake voice. "Finally, I need one black coffee." He said with an erratic voice.

"Coming right back with your coffee sir!" She told him with a gentle smile. A black coffee was an easy order, she just had to take the coffee beans, grind them and then put the powder in the machine.

As she was about to finish the mug, an exasperated sigh came from behind her.
"How dumb are you huh? It was obvious that I meant a cup not a fucking mug." Said the irascible man waiting for his order.
She was ready to calmly respond to the not so kind fellow, when a tall man came forward.

His shoulders were big, the shirt he was wearing was tight around his arms but not too tight to look bad. He was mesmerizing. Saying he was simply beautiful would have been an underestimated consideration.

"Tom, I don't like at how you are talking to this girl." He said in a surprisingly tranquil voice.

"Come, let's have a chat." Bea didn't understand why but a shiver hit her back. He was too calm for his appearance, his body, unlike his calm behavior, exuded power and control.

The poor little guy nodded his head submissively and got up to follow the tall man. As they walked out the cafe Bea couldn't get her eyes off the big one: who was him? She said in her head.

Beatrice decided not to think of the event for much longer and instead to continue to work. Another customer came to make an order, and Bea's mind already forgot everything that happened before .
