Chapter 2: Mark of the Demon

"Why didn't you invite me to go?" Yuzhi asked Yun, braiding his hair.

"I didn't think you'd want to," Yun replied, "besides, it's not like you yourself was invited by Hall."

"He hates me!"

"He does not. Be nice to him, he's having a hard time with the garden getting destroyed and all."

"He's trying to take you from me!"

"You're being overdramatic. He's my friend, that's it."

Yuzhi groaned, nipping Yun's ears softly. Yun laughed a little, pushing Yuzhi away.

"Stop that, you!"

Yuzhi smirked, but still felt threatened by Hall. Yun was his! He had to prove that somehow.

'PDA it is!" He thought, smirking.

The first instant of Yuzhi feeling threatened was around Lunch time.

Yun was busy getting himself some pudding. Hall was nearby, starting a conversation with Yun.

On the outside, it was just a normal friend-to-friend conversation. But Yuzhi knew better.

"So you're going to a fe-hahAHH!" Yun yelped as Yuzhi nipped his ears once again, wrapping his arms around him.

"Are you ok?" Hall asked.

"It's just me!" Yuzhi giggled. If Hall wasn't blind, Yuzhi would have given him the biggest shit-eating grin.

"Yunnie!" Yuzhi said. "Let's go eat lunch on my poach!"

"Are you sure?" Yun asked. "I think it said it would rain..."

"It'll be fine, you can snuggle me while we eat~"

"Or," Hall interjected, "you could come eat with me and Leon at the picnic."

"That sounds great!" Yun said. "Let's go, Yuzhi, it sounds fun."

Yuzhi made a face. "Fine! I want alone time with you though!"

"I promise, now please let go."

Drat! Lost again! At least Yuzhi would be there with Yun this time, but he still didn't like Hall being there.

This was just an opportunity for him to put him in his place.

"Thanks for coming, Yun," Hall said again, "...and you too, Xie Yuzhi, Xie Chuyi."

They sat on the top of a building, covered by a large umbrella. Although other Shadow Guards  were around enjoying the picnic provided by their higher-ups, Yuzhi focused on his small group; Hall, Leon, Chuyi, Yun.

"Did you make this pudding, Yun?" Hall asked.

"Yes," Yun replied, "do you like it?"

"Yes, it's delicious!"

Leon nodded in agreement, causing Yun to smile pridefully.

"Thank you, Yunnie~" Yuzhi said, snuggling his boyfriend.

"Heh heh..." Yun blushed a little. Yuzhi knew Yun loved attention, so the more attention given, the more likely Yun would stay with him.

"...so," Leon said, "are you ever going to stop being so affectionate in front of everybody?"

"Never," Yuzhi sang, "ever."

Yun chuckled awkwardly, starting to get a little tired of Yuzhi.

Ever since he got back from the garden with Hall, Yuzhi started to become more clingy. At first, Yun thought it was cute; he liked it when Yuzhi became jealous.

It was becoming increasingly annoying though, as Yun could hardly sit down before Yuzhi was on top of him, let alone start a conversation with any conventionally attractive person.

The terror of losing Yuzhi was greater than his annoyance, so Yun sucked it up and just smiled.

"Why?" Chuyi asked sharply. "Do you have a problem with it?"

"No," Leon replied, "but other people do."

"So, it's not their life."

"It's still out in the open for everyone to see."

Yuzhi glanced at Hall, who looked miserable. He looked at Yun, who looked embarrassed.

It felt great to conquer their emotions.

"Tsk." Chuyi hissed.

"Let's go," Yuzhi said, "it's cold."

"Wait," Yun interrupted, "just a few more minutes! We haven't even started."

Hall whispered to Leon, and the two of them got up.

"We'll be back in a minute," Hall said, "I just...remembered to tell Leon something."

"Leon, I really hate how uncomfortable Tang Yun sounded." Hall said. "Maybe..."

"We can't stop now," Leon interrupted, "you've already established that you're willing to go against them, there's no backing out."

"What if-"

"Those Xie twins are nasty. Even if you tell them you give up to their faces, they'll masquerade about and rub it into your face until they find a new victim."

"I-...ok, you're right, but..."

Hall's train of thought left him as he heard Leon sigh.

"You said it yourself, Tang Yun was uncomfortable out there because Xie Yuzhi felt threatened by you. You gotta use that to your advantage!"

Hall's face must of looked horrible, because Leon's voice became softer. "I know these days have been hard for you. I'm here for you."

"...thanks." Hall smiled.

"Yep. Ready to go back out?"

"Yes."

Walking back out, they saw Chuyi awkwardly taking some macaroons from Jin Yuyao.

"Thanks again for all your hard work," Yuyao said, "keep that brother of yours in check."

"Of course, ma'am." Chuyi said.

Hall ignored this conversation and went back to Yun and Yuzhi.

"Sorry about that," Hall apologized, "where were we?"

"Hall, take me and Xie Yuzhi to the garden." Yun said.

"You want back so soon?"

"Yes!" Yun smiled. "Yuzhi doesn't think it's all that special, but it is."

"Of course I'll take you again, it'll be my pleasure."

Yuzhi smirked a little. The garden that Hall loved so much could easily be his domain of victory.

"Thank you so much!" Yuzhi purred.

Hall nodded a little. He knew Yuzhi would try something, but he also had a hunch Yun would be furious.

He wasn't worried.
