-Valz's POV-

I follow Dr. Shannon to the first aid center and she bandages my hand, I blush at the thought. "Who is the new subject?" I ask her. "1507." She said serious as I followed her to the hallway where new subjects go. I'm surprised those doctors haven't taken them to the experiment rooms yet but by the tone of Dr. Shannon's voice, they are still in the quarantine rooms. "What is their real name?" I ask, annoyed. "We're not supposed to tell them mine or your name, by the way, and I don't know. I was just told to come here with you right before I found you." Dr. Shannon sounded just as confused about the new subject as me. There was an awkward minute of silence in the hallways, the only sounds heard were the faint screams of other subjects getting tortured to death, the murmuring of other doctors, and the beeping of hospital machines before I asked, "Did the others tell you to get me because I was planning on meeting th- it one-on-one with Or- *ahem* 889 later today, after your meeting, of course." Dr. Shannon turned her head to look at me "Oh, you were? Maybe the three of us can pay 889 a visit after we get to know it a little better."

-Veronica's POV-

Whoever these people are, they're more of a monster than us. I have to cover my ears most of the time because the others' screaming hurts my ears. Having good hearing can be a con more than a pro in this situation. Today was especially awful when a man stepped into the room I was in and beat me and shocked me. "HEY!" a voice yelled, my hands cupped to my ears again. "It's coming with us." I looked up to see two different doctors looking at me. "Sure, whatever, this little runt hasn't shown any significant abilities yet, so, like, be careful when testing it." said the doctor who shocked me. Fear filled my body almost immediately. My wings spread out and covered my face as I hid in terror. "Whoa..." said all three doctors then the one doctor with muted brown skin whispered something to the doctor with blonde hair. And of course, with amazing hearing, I made out what they said perfectly. "They have wings like me... You think I should show mine when we're talking to them?" The blonde-haired doctor nodded slightly. I peeked out from my wings, still cautious. The blonde doctor held out her hand and smiled, she put on the laser handcuffs, that shock you if you try to escape. "Follow me" then she whispered, "You're safe with us, I swear." The muted brown-skinned doctor followed behind me in the hallway while the blonde one was in front. I followed sheepishly behind the blonde doctor and paid attention to their every move. After a little bit of walking, we made it to an office-like room, thankfully no one else was in there except for us. I looked around the room in case there were any traps, which there weren't but on the desk, there was a name tag, Dr. Shannon. "Shannon" I realized I blurted that out and immediately fell onto the floor and hid in my wings, mentally preparing myself for a beating or shock. The blonde doctor quickly turned around in shock and had the biggest smile on her face but for some reason it wasn't in a bad way. "Oh my gosh! Are you ok?!" she bent down and removed the handcuffs and told the muted brown-skinned doctor to close the door and they did. "So you know how to read... can you understand me?" I removed my wings, looking a little shocked from their reaction. I hesitantly nodded. "My name is Dr. Shannon, like you saw on the name tag. And this is Dr. Valentina or Val." "Or Valz, just don't say it around other doctors." I look at them as they say their names, an notice how kind they are. "I'm Veronica, or V" "Ah! So you do know your real name, good, good." She got up from crouching and gave me her hand again "Do you want to sit? I know how scary it can be kneeling in a cage for 3 days. And I'm really sorry I couldn't get you out of the quarantine rooms sooner..." I stand up and put my wings down, I looked at them in silence. "We won't hurt you were the only good doctors here" Said Valz. "Do you know how to write–" "Shannon, give V a damn break! They just had a taste of how horrible some of the doctors can be for 3 days and now you're flooding them with questions?!" Valz snapped. I slightly flinched at her yelling. "Oh shit, sorry I didn't mean to yell and sorry I snapped at you Shannon, I- I didn't mean to..." I looked at Valz with a soft tone. I turn my head slightly. "It's fine, Val, I just needed to go over my mental check list for when we meet a new subject." I watch the two doctors and stayed quiet. "V, right?" Dr. Shannon looked over to me "Do want to tell us why your here or how your here?" I didn't really know what to say. "My friend sent me to this place..." Valz gave me a surprised look and Dr. Shannons look was a sad one but I can tell she was trying to hide it. "W- why did your friend send you here...?" Her compassion made me remember of how my dad used to comfort me when I would get bullied at school. "How could they do that to them?" Valz murmured to herself. Before I could answer Valz said "Wait, what are your pronouns? Mine are she/they and Shannon's are she/her" I look at her quietly. "She/her..." I don't think I hid my lie very well. "Alright, thanks. If they ever change or they're different from the ones that you told us, just tell me or Shannon." Valz put her arms on the back of her head and slightly slouched in her chair, she seemed sort-of uncomfortable while doing so. "Val? You need to let your wings out?" Dr. Shannon walked over and sat in her desk chair in front of me and Valz. "Yeah just a sec..." She got up and put herself into a T position. Then in a steady but slow movement pinkish cream colored wings flow out of her back. A lot of feathers are missing and it looks tattered and beat-up. "Aaaa, that's a lot better!" I stare in awe as she slowly closes up her wings and sits down again. "Sorry for cutting you off, V. But do you know why your friend sent you here?" Dr. Shannon looks at me with sadness and compassion. "Because she knew..." I tried to hide the anger in my voice but I don't know if it worked. I was so mad at her, she did this to me..she knew all my secrets, I trusted her. My wings closed behind me and I hid them. "She knew... you have wings?" Now Valz is looking at me with one of her eyes, an X covers the other, I wonder what happened to her. "She knew I was part dragon, after my mom died no one really cared. I was called freak, weirdo and so on. She was the only one who cared, or I thought she was. She betrayed me. I told her everything..." Panic rushes through my mind. "Oh no...She knew everything- My dad..." I stare at the floor in terror. Dr. Shannon rushes over from her desk and crouches so if I looked up from the floor I would be looking at her. "Hey! It's ok. You don't have to talk about it now if you're not ready." She looked over at Valz and gave her a nod and she nodded back. "How about we take a walk?" I nod, trying to forget my worry. "Come on, let's go." Dr. Shannon gets up and puts the handcuffs on me again and Valz opens the door. "We're going to meet someone along the way", she whispered in the quiet and imprisoning hallways, "She's not very much of a talker since she lived in the ocean half her life and only communicated in whale calls. But she talks to Val a lot!" She smiles and looks over to Valz. Then Valz whispered something in my ear as we passed a group of doctors giving smiles to Dr. Shannon and dirty looks to me and Valz. "She's also genderfluid, you know what that means, right?" I nod. I look around to get used to my surroundings as we walk. After a while we end up at another room, Dr. Shannon opens the door, and we all walk into a slightly dimmed room and she closes the door. Dr. Shannon looks over at Valz and Valz speaks up. "Orca? Are you awake?" A small little yawn that sounded like a whale call was heard in the corner of the room where a bed stood. "I ...awake..." a groggy voice echoed. I stay quiet as I stand in the corner, trying to hide in the shadows. I was a little shocked to hear another person. I feel my elf-ish ears droop. "Is your gender status the same as last time?" Valz asked. "Girl...." said Orca as she got up from her bed. Then she looked up and her mood watchers, which track your emotions and display them in colors, on her hospital gown stayed a constant gray color meaning she's anxious. "Who.... there? New people...?" Valz looks back at me and Dr. Shannon. "Kind of. One's new, the other is Dr. Shannon." Orca stands creepily still in the shadows of her bed, staring with her dark gray blue spotted eyes and silver iris's. I think on how pretty she is. I stay where I am quietly, not wanting to disturb Valz and Orca's talking. Orca then looks at me with a blank expression. "Not same... eyes. Blue... black.." Orca points at me from her bedside as her mood watcher changes to a teal color which means she's curious. How can she see me in this dark room? I can hardly see anything myself, I thought as my eyes were getting used to Orca's dimly lit room, maybe she's already used to the darkness. "What... is name?" Orca slowly steps forward to me, putting her finger down and walking to all three of us. Valz looked over at me and whispered, "You want to tell her?" I nod, stepping oh so closer to Orca. "I'm Veronica..You can call me V." I look at her calmly. She stopped walking, looks down and takes my hand and mutters "V... I is.. Orca." She looked up at my face, her eyes blinked a couple times before she reached out with her other hand and slowly touched my hair. I stood still, a little confused, but let her do what she wanted. "Soft." She stopped touching my hair "You... new?" Orca looked around at Valz and Dr. Shannon, but still holding onto my hand. "Yeah..." My voice quiet as ever. "You be... friend?" Orca mumbled. Valz smiles and whisperes to Dr. Shannon "Looks like I'm not her only friend here." Dr. Shannon quietly chuckles and whispers back "I'm glad she's taking a big step forward.." I nod at Orca. Orca smiled, showing her mostly sharp teeth. Dr. Shannon let out a surprised gasp and Valz stood there with her mouth slightly open. "Holy shit Orca. I've never seen you smile like that before!" Valz closes her mouth and puts her hands on her hips. Orca ignores Valz and hugs V. Orca says something under her breath while still hugging V, "You are... pod. My– pod." I hug back, smiling softly. "Yes" Orca's breathing becomes a little shaky, "Miss... pod." Orca hugs a little tighter. I almost immediantly understand she's upset and tighten the hug myself to comfort her. Dr. Shannon looks down at her wrist and sighs. "I'm sorry everyone but I have to get to a meeting now and who knows what else. Valz please stay with them." Valz nods and Dr. Shannon walks out of the room, letting the bright hallway lights spill in before she shuts the door.
