J A D E

Three Weeks Later...

I sit in the coffee shop, my head buried in my laptop with a mocha latte next to me. I'm in the midst of writing my mid-term paper for my business class. The concept is simple so it's not something I'm stressed about but who wants to write five pages? Nobody.

"You never hit me up about the hair appointment", I hear from behind me. Before I can turn around, Jaden appears and invites himself to sit at my table. I give him a tight-lipped smile, taking out my air pods and putting them in the case. "I thought you would've asked about it since you want the service. You have my number" I lean back in the chair with my arms crossed.

He does the same, smirking at me. "When you available, love?"

"Today and Friday. I'm off, my apartment isn't too far from here so we can do it there. How does four-thirty sound?", I acquire and he nods without hesitation.

"Cool, how much you charging?"

"Sixty", I tell him. I wasn't going to charge him out the ass since it wouldn't take long. "Make sure your hair is washed and combed through", I emphasize.

"Done"

"I'll send you my address later", I assumed that was the end of the conversation until he made no moves to leave. We both stare at each other and I look around in confusion. "Sooo?"

"Sooo?", he mimics my tone.

"Why are you still sitting here?", I ask and he laughs.

Jaden stands up, shaking his head. "I'm trynna make new friends and shit, you being mean", he pretends to pout and walks away.

I can tell he's going to be a character.

After spending a little bit more time on my paper. I made it to the fourth page and decided to go home. I had plans on showering and taking a nap before doing Jaden's hair. Once I make the walk to my car, I go to Caliya's contact since it's been awhile since we caught up. We really haven't spoke much after her boyfriend came acting a fool at the club. "Hey", she says in a soft tone.

"Hey boo, you good?", I ask and she sighs.

"Not really, I miss you. You been everywhere but with me", Caliya dramatically sighs again and I refrain from laughing. "Here you go", I add knowing where this conversation was about to go.

"Nah because why haven't I seen you in almost a month? Montae really pissed you off?"

I lowkey was regretting even making the call. "This is the fourth time this shit done happened. I don't need this to be a consistent thing. Everywhere we go he pops up and you don't say shit about it"

It's a long pause on the phone. "I mean I have a man now, some shit is gonna change. We live together too so it's a lot deeper now", she tries to reason and it does nothing for me. To me it was irrelevant because i've had friends who are in relationships and their nigga wasn't running up on us. None of my men have never embarrassed me like that, relationship or not its disrespectful.

"Okay, Caliya. I'm not going back and forth about but I don't like it", I reply, ending the conversation. "That was embarrassing as fuck"
