Chapter 3

     "Ryan!" A voice can be heard outside of Ryan's dorm room, Matt is knocking on the door. Today is the second day for Ryan being at the Academy. Ryan wakes up and falls out of his bed. He lets out a whining noise and says in a rushed tone as he gets up, "C-Coming! Give me a few minutes!" Ryan rushed to change into his usual clothing. Matt waited as he heard some noises as Ryan changed, "What's taking him so long?" He then hears some quick steps, and then the door unlocks and opens. "Dude, what took you so long to wake up? We got to go to class soon."

     "I know-- I know Matt, let's go." He said as he zipped up his sweater even though it was around 65 degrees outside. "Did you say bye to your pig already?" Of course, Ryan did, Mr. Oinker is his pet, but more like a friend at the same time. He's very intelligent compared to other animals. Matt added some tone of sarcasm to annoy Ryan a little bit. Ryan let out a sigh of aggravation, "Let's go eat breakfast." They both make their way to the cafe they usually eat at.

(They are now at the front of the building, the cafe.)

     "After you, my lady!" Matt says in a fancy tone. "Yeah, yeah." He dismissed his hand at him as he went in. Matt followed, and they went to their usual table and sat down as they waited for their food. Matt turned to Ryan, "Hey Ryan, you know how we have a new teacher?" Matt asked Ryan. "Uh, yeah?" Matt paused for a bit thinking about his words he then spoke. "I don't like him. Something just seems...off." Ryan's head cocked to the side. "What do you mean by off?" Matt sighed, "Why haven't we seen him before? He must have been around campus for a while. I'm certain he's important enough for Petra to get us a teacher with no powers," he said, sounding exasperated. Ryan took a sip of his drink before he spoke, "Well, I mean yeah it's.... a little bit strange I guess...? I mean we haven't HAD a non-rune teacher in a while, just give him a chance Matt I have a good feeling this time." Matt rolled his eyes and scoffed in response, "I- really feel like something is off about him and-"

      Their food arrives as soon as Ryan cuts Matt off. "Look, Matt, if you think something is off, you do your own thing. Go ahead and find out for yourself because I will not help you." Ryan made sure to get this into Matt's head, he's tired of all this conflict that keeps occurring over the past four years. Ryan cut a piece of his waffle and took a bite out of it on his fork. He didn't like how Matt kept pushing the topic, he wanted to give this new teacher a chance considering how most teachers turn out to be bad.

     They stayed silent for a little while as they ate until Tori came in. "Hey Matt! Hey Ryann," She gave Ryan a peck on the lips and tasted syrup on his lips. She noticed how quiet they both seemed to each other. "What's happening? You guys seem quiet." Her eyebrow raised at this "It's...well. Matt thinks our new teacher is probably not a good person!" He side-eyed Matt while he said this to her. "What! I just said he looks off! I didn't say he was a bad guy!" He exclaimed to Ryan. "Well, it felt like you did to me,"

     Ryan feels upset that Matt isn't giving this a chance. There was a small silence, but Tori thankfully broke it. "Why don't you like him?" Tori asked Matt in a curious tone as she took a seat next to Ryan. "He looks familiar. Like not in a good way though." He ate the last piece of his waffle as his eyebrows furrowed together. "What do you mean by that exactly?" Ryan said in a somewhat defensive tone. "It's just- I can't explain it! It's a gut feeling I have!" He said in an accusatory tone.

     "Oh really? Since when has your gut been right? Like the one time you had a 'gut feeling' about the poor janitor at a restaurant?" He said remarking at the time Matt accused the janitor of stealing the mops, but it was just some random student. "Well, you're right but, come on! He had it coming!" Ryan sharply sighed, "Look- we can pick up on this later and we can follow him after class!" Ryan gave him a look of doubt, "No!" Ryan was becoming a little loud, and he then quieted himself down when he saw other people starting to stare at them both. "We will NOT follow a grown-ass man, aka our teacher! Do you realize how strange and creepy that sounds???" He hates the way Matt is acting right now; he finds it unbelievable.
